I love music and my phone is a major part of my listening experience. My Sennheiser wired buds are almost permanently in the phone. I have Jaybird bluetooth buds for the gym, but they can't compete for sound or simplicity with my wired buds.

I know Apple will bundle a lightning to 3.5mm adapter - but it's finicky, messy, and likely to be lost. Not to mention the lightning connector doesn't 'grab' as tight as the audio jack, so is likely to constantly pull out.

Maybe in a few years I'll have no choice about an audio jack, but at the moment I wouldn't contemplate buying an iPhone 7.

So, for you who will be buying, how do you feel about it? Will it cost Apple sales?

I'm not buying the 7; I don't see any compelling new features, and I do use the headphone port relatively frequently. If the port was still present on the 7 then I'd probably have bought one out of fear of the next model getting rid of it.

Are the lightning earpods analog or digital? If digital them this is the ultimate move, upgrade to headphones with better DAC's as you see fit.... Can't wait till android do the same

Bose just came back to me pretty much saying "not yet" but the 3.5mm to lightning adapter will be $12 from Apple

But weren't Bose the advertised supporters of the lightning change in Tim's announcement speech?

I'll probably end up buying it still. The other features outweigh the minimal inconvenience of the removed headphone jack. All the people complaining it's going to be the end all of apple will probably never buy an iPhone anyway tbh. It's not a big deal.

No, I use good Beats over ear phones around home. I also really like me Galaxy S7 Edge.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'll be pre ordering tonight. The loss of the 3.5mm is a nothing for me. I could count the amount of times Ive used it in the last year on 1 hand. Earphones with lightning adaptor will do everything I need

Panasonic 65GZ1000, Onkyo RZ730, Atmos 5.1.2, AppleTV 4K, Nest Mini's, PS5, PS3, MacbookPro, iPad Pro, Apple watch SE2, iPhone 15+

This.

So many people have got hung up on the fact the 3.5mm jack is going but forget they are providing earphones that plug into the lightning port so if out and about and are happy using the earpods then nothing is really different. 3rd party companies like Bose will adapt and I assume there will be some adapter in the future that lets you listen and charge the iPhone 7 + future versions at the same time.

Nope. I hate how apple have become everything via dongles. It started with the macbook and ethernet and has just snowballed. Sure I may not use the port that is directly on the device but when I need it I need it and I don't want to be stuck having left the dongle somewhere or fumbling around to find it.

So what next is the macbook going to get a lightning port so you can use the same headphones on your phone or are they going to give us a dongle to convert digital to analog then back to digital and then out as analog.

I'm all for it, apart from the fact you will now have to buy headphones for your specific device?!? When androids start doing it I guess it will be USB-C.

But I use bluetooth currently anyway
