Yes, and I get the same result on all networks. I know its flat but its appalling coverage.

That is interesting, I find most areas have usuable coverage, however where I live I am lucky to get one bar. I guess this is a downside to living in a mostly flat city

Im finally using wifi calling now which is at least something. Wasnt able to use it until ios 14. Voice quality is a bit crap tho, and I am in one of the many blackspots with about 6 houses around me.

the pro seems great, can now send AR scan of cat instead of cat photos to my friend so it will pop up on their camera view in their house where they can walk around and up close to the cat

also great to see that even though the 5g mmwave might not be widely available, at least the mobile providers are stacking their 5g on some of their existing lower 4g bands with nr so we can benefit from beam forming for better signal, better spectrum efficiency and possibly better speed.

Perhaps the equipment isn’t rated for cold temperatures and high rainfall? 😎

Rebound:

Hi BP,

This was taken on Victoria Street West.  Ironically opposite the Spark office.  Just tested up on Union Street in the CBD and I'm getting 100Mbps.

Hi Rebound,

Thanks for providing this details on your 5G successes.

I was in the CDB twice this week and walked around trying to get a 5G signal to do a speedtest on. No go anywhere I went, noting that I was in places where the Spark 5G coverage map said there was signal. I went up Victoria Street West around the Spark head office too. Nothing, nada, zip. I popped into the Spark store on Queen Street to see if they could help but apart from checking my iPhone settings for 5G (which was on 5G Auto, and I'd also tried putting it on 5G On myself during my travels), there was no other troubleshooting done.

I rang the Spark 5G phone number and spoke to a someone and finally got them to understand what I was saying. He then proceeded to tell me they weren't trained on handsets, but did ask if my SIM was a "LTE SIM". I asked him how I could tell, and he directed me to go to a store and ask.

My handset is iPhone 12 Pro from Spark. I think my sim is the same one I got when I first joined Spark back in 2011 with a iPhone 4S. Later I upgraded to the iPhone 7 (it's possible that I got a new SIM with this phone) and am now on the 12.

I've got various answers on Google on what is a "LTE SIM" and I intend to pop into a Spark store over the weekend to talk to them about this.

I'd be interested in anyone's view on the "LTE SIM", and also whether you are using an eSim and getting 5G.

5G is added automatically to your SIM profile, if your still not having any joy DM me your number and I can take a look.

My comments and remarks are not necessarily of my employer.

Strange, my sim is the first nano sim I ever received. Popped it in to my phone and had 5G without having to do anything at all?

Has anyone who didn't pre-order on release manage to get hold of their phone yet?

I ordered the 12 pro on the 26th Oct, haven't heard anything yet but Noel Leeming had listed on their site at the time expected arrival for this week.

Noel Leeming are notorious for this sort of thing. I ordered the 2nd generation Apple Watch from them when it was first released in 2016, and they took my payment immediately but never proactively communicated with me. I phoned them multiple times over a period of weeks but they could never tell me if or when they would supply the goods so eventually I had to demand a refund.

If you can then cancel your order with them and place an order with Apple.

I was back in the CBD yesterday, and as the ferry got close to the terminal, 5G popped up on my phone. Was good to see - I did a quick speed test and got 130Mbps download - not super fast but a good starting point and better than any speed test I've done previously on 4G. Thanks gajan for your responses to my questions - much appreciated.

SWMBO has expressed an interest in a stainless Apple Watch 6.

They all seem to be on backorder. Have they actually been released yet?

m1dday: So, how many here will be going for the 12 Pro Max/12 Mini preorders tonight? πŸ‘€

I stayed up until 2am to order a 12 mini. My first time going direct through Apple (previously have gone via the local telcos) so was quite exciting to be part of the hype train!

Got my order through at 2:04am after the Apple Store app finally let me in on my current iPhone, whereas my iPad and Mac were both still saying “Almost ready”.

Now the wait begins again, this time for launch day!
