It's not being released in NZ on the 17th!

It goes on sale on the 14th in the major markets (US, Canada, UK, etc), then launches on 28th October in 22 more countries which NZ is not part of, then in 80 countries by December.

We will have it by December, not in 4 days time!

tdgeek:

Thats what I am assuming from the ad. If they are offloading iPhone4 stock on this offer up to 16 October, maybe the iPhone 4S is being released on 17 October

Ah... yeah I wouldn't make that assumption myself. We're not even in the two lists of countries already announced with launch dates so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Edit: What Corksta said.

Probably you are right, but just an assumption in my part.

If they were running down their stock, 'while stocks last" may have been a better offer rather than a fixed date.

Yes, by December.

This is what Apple has said, and until Apple say otherwise anything else is just rumour/speculation.

Saw an article that apple are selling AT&T phones "off contract" the cheapest is USD$649 (ex taxes).

I think this is $50 cheaper than the "unlocked" phone 4 was.

Given that we won't have it till December, if you go to the US, you might be able to get a deal:

0.80USB /1 NZD ~ 811.25  That is if you can claim the sales tax back (do they have refund schemes in the US?), and don't pay GST ($932.94).

There's no refund scheme in the US. A handful of states have no sales tax but otherwise that's it.

No tax in Texas. A guy from my school got one sent to a relative in texas and then they sent it here. didn't have to pay GST when coming in to NZ.

Edit. was an iphone 4 a couple of months ago.

Texas has a tax rate of 6.25%. They do have a tax-free weekend once a year so maybe it was bought during this time.

What would be the difference between a US bought 4S and an Australian one? Absolutely zero? As in iOS5.

In terms of iOS5 no difference at all. Carrier settings may add carrier-specific features, but two unlocked iPhones bought directly from Apple in Australia and the US would be identical.

It's the same as when iOS5 was released the other day for everyone to download - it's the same OS provided to everyone around the world.

Tks Corksta

Although we don't get Siri in NZ on the new iOS5?

Not for NZ English but I'm really interested to hear from NZ 4S owners who set Siri to Australian English to see how it works for us over here.

Many foreigners can't tell the difference between our accents so hopefully Siri can't either!

Oh, so your saying that Siri is on a NZ upgraded iOS5? But that there is no NZ setting? I thought that a NZ upgraded iOS5 was missing Siri?
