Yes, just needs to be switched on, but there's no NZ English setting for Siri - we would need to choose Australian English in the settings and then hope it understood our accent.

The real test with Siri is if she can tell the difference between Auckland and Oakland.

Was in Smokey Mountains in 2007, saw a black bear. Pulled over, an SUV pulled up next to us and asked what we say, I said a black bear. Said that 4 times until I talked with an american accent, then he understood.

When travelling the world by bus and boat people, from 'foreign parts', always used to look at me with disgust and horror when I suggested that I get my deck out and we play a game.

Took me ages to explain I just wanted to play cards.

Oh, the [potential iPhone] hilarity.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

I once went to by six stamps at an Australia post outlet, got some very strange looks.

picked a 4s up while I was in the states, i'm using the austraiian english settings, Siri for the most part works pretty well, there are a few words it doesn't pick up properly but if I slow down how fast I talk it is quite accurate. I was able to have an imessage conversation with my brother by using Siri exclusively :)

Given that virtually (or indeed, actually) every vowel is different between NZ and Australian English, there's a good chance you'd do just as well with UK English.

One more thing - it's quite maddening that the Apple sub-site for New Zealand promotes the 4s heavily while giving not a hint about when we might actually be able buy one (they don't even have the usual "Sign up to be accidentally told when we launch it in Australia" option).

This is a shame, because after watching the NokiaWorld keynote and being pretty sure I'm not a sports fanatic who loves crappy dance music, I find myself thinking with regard to Windows Phone "Is that it?", and the iPhone is looking more and more interesting by the day.

Very true, although the release stated 14 Oct and 28 Oct for a number of countries, not including NZ. So, given that, you would hope that a timeframe may be given soon. I assume that this depends on demand for the 4S, and what that means to existing stocks and production runs. They sold 4 million in 3 days I think I read.

The iPhone 4S will be available in New Zealand from 11 November, with pre orders from 4 November.

iPhone 4S comes in either black or white for a recommended retail price of NZ$ 1,049 for the 16GB model, NZ$ 1,199 for the 32GB model and NZ$ 1,349 for the new 64GB model. The company says iPhone 4S will be sold through the Apple Online Store and select Apple Authorised Resellers.

The iPhone 4 is now available for NZ$ 899 and iPhone 3GS is available for NZ$599.

No mention of a mobile operator in the press release.
