JarrodM: I'm going to wait and see what the deal is with Siri is in NZ.

The remote is different in countries that Siri is not supported (includes NZ)

I'm pretty certain the remote is the same, it's just Siri functionality we won't get here at first.

Yep thats right, Apple has confirmed as much in their developer forums. Hopefully won't be too long till they activate Siri here - I've got one of the Developer kits and its frustrating not having voice functionality :(

What happens if you log in using a US iTunes account? Does that activate Siri support?

I'm keen.

I assume Lightbox wont be far away
Games. yeah, I'll check them
App Store, are we likely to see a small App Store, and not a lot of existing apps updated to the new ATV?
Whats the odds of TV1/3 doing an app for their SVOD?
SkyGo do an app?

Am hoping its the only STB I need, but not so sure

I'd definately buy one if Lightbox and TVNZ/TV3 added apps. At this point, I'm on the fence about what the advantage is for me upgrading from my current ATV. I'll have to see what additional apps they add I guess.

Don't have one to try, but I tried changing the region, using DNS unblocking and all sorts of things but no luck with Siri. Someone will probably figure it out once its released but with only the dev kit out, the NDA prevents much discussion.

PoHq: With the high NZ dollar I'm guessing $249 for the 32gb and $299 for the 64gb.

I hope you're right, but those prices seem a bit low considering the current exchange rate (and the need to add GST). I'm guessing more like $269 for the 32gb and $349 for 64gb

Bzzt,  299 and 399 NZD,

I agree, the prices are crazy. My estimation was based of the USA price exchanged to NZ$, adding 15% for GST and still room for them to make a bit extra money out of us, but they have exceeded my expectations and grabbed even more money putting an extra 18% markup on top of the USA retail price for selling in NZ. It's starting to feel like greed as even when the exchange rate was at its worse it was nowhere near these figures to require them to build in this buffer!

I will stick to my ATV 3rd gen and chromecast. If I want play games I rather get a PS4.

In a follow up to my own post on pricing, does anyone know what statutory fees are?

The 64GB Apple TV is NZ$399, which by my calculation is NZ$347 + GST (NZ$52). Apple quote NZ$74 for "GST and statutory fees". I don't see these charges on any other apple products as they only quote GST, and then it's for the correctly calculated amount for the purchase price.

Does anyone know what these statutory fees amounting to NZ$22 are for? As they are listed in this way I'm guessing they must be a government levy of some kind?

Just realised that this could potentially be really great - TV1,3 Apps, Fanpass/SkyGo, Netflix, Lightbox, Neon.

Edit- no need for DVR as OS wide search would the business.

Pretty much what I'm hoping for, with ondemand services for the freeview channels I wouldn't need a DVR any-more and everything would be in one box.

Any idea on whether the gen 3 ATV will be updated with the new OS?

It won't. The ATV 3 will not get the Apple TV app store.

I would expect this to be connected to what kind of iTunes account you have. If you have a US iTunes account I would expect (and thats what I am hoping for) Siri should be working.

Don't think Geo-unblocking will have any effect on wether or not Siri is available.
