no... i saw this was a pinned thread so assumed it must be the main thread regarding this topic!

had my partners iPhone 6+ battery replaced at Service Plus in Penrose, Ak last month for $49.
I first contacted them in early Jan and they advised me that they had no stock and were waiting on deliveries from Apple.
ETA was March/April so I was put on a waiting list. In late Feb they contacted me to say stock had arrived early and to bring the phone in. 
dropped the phone in at 9:30am one morning and it was ready by lunchtime. iPhone been working fine since, no issues and definite improvement in performance. A good experience with Service Plus.

oobi in Chch are doing them, but for some reason they are charging $59 for the replacement of a 6 battery.  They must have missed the Apple Memo.

yes my point was as other have said, that they are not all doing them for $49.  my question was if anyone is doing them in Chch for $49.

Why do people on here have to be so Antsy about someone looking for help?.. I thought that was the intention of these forums!!

Thanks for your reply!.. I guess a $10 premium is better than the original price.

Seems strange that Apple can make an announcement on their website that it will cost $49 to replace a battery, but when you call them they cant tell you how to get it replaced for that price!

The $49 battery price is if you do it direct with Apple yourself.

i.e. send it in to them and be without your iPhone for a few days.

AASPs are independent and can charge whatever they like, as they will do it the same day for you usually.

It even says something to that affect on Apple's website.

I can tell you that there's no margin in doing them for $49, hence why you'll find most, if not all, AASPs will charge more for the service.

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus not so bad but the newer models all have adhesive holding the displays in, that needs to be replaced after opening them.

And then you need a special press to put the iPhone into, to make sure they're sealed properly.

That costs money and takes longer to complete.

yes but my point is that in NZ you cannot do it with Apple direct, as they dont have an apple store, and  you can't send it to them... I already callled them and checked this out, so the only option is the dealers, who as you say.. wont do it for $49... so the info on the Apple website is misleading..the following is from their NZ webpage:

• Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by NZ$90 — from NZ$139 to NZ$49 — for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through to December 2018. Details will be provided soon on apple.com/nz.

Apple usually wants consumers to go to one of their agents anyway, before they will offer to send you a courier bag etc. Surely it cost them more with all the postage costs etc to do it, tha use an agent who you can take it into.

IMO as apple are now saying a battery is a consumable that needs replacing every now and then, they should be making it cheaper to replace properly, or make them removable. eg You should need an expensive repair on a 2k phone every 18 months, just to keep your phone working as designed, due to a failing consumable.

redherring: Haven't really followed this. Is there a way to find out the battery status and if it needs replacing?

There are apps for battery, but apple don't have any built in way. you have to phone them, and they will do a diagnostics on it and tell you i it is worn. Ironically my phone crashes a lot now and has a two year old battery in it, and the app shows a 29% battery wear. However apple told me that the battery is still performing like new and doesn't need changing

The only thing that's changed is the price of the batteries that the AASPs have to buy.

They've come a lot, for the models that Apple are doing for "$49".

A battery has always been a consumable item.

You can do it direct with Apple in NZ, I've done it myself.

They send you a box and a courier bag, and you put your device in there and courier it back to them.

If the Apple person on the phone told you differently then they got it wrong, which doesn't surprise me, as they get a lot of things wrong for our systems and processes with Apple here in NZ!
