$199 USD = $262 NZD and you're suggesting $1000? I find that amazing if it true....could it be misinformation to then make the actual price look reasonable?

Surprised that there was a lot of stock available to each store, or surprised that there was very little stock available??

I'd love you to point out where that is explicitly stated. As far as I am aware, it was a comment Steve Jobs said in a presentation. Their press release for the US at the time said...
In the presentation video from Apple (available online etc. etc.) at 1hr40mins or so, Steve Jobs says "... and in almost every one of these countries, the price is a maximum of $199, all around the world."

Dont get me wrong, but i think you guys might be jumping the gun a little early on the whole pricing thing. (Im talking about the iPhone, not the plans)

Also, I confirmed with my local store (In Whangaparaoa, Auckland) that they will be stocking the iphone ON JULY 11TH.

He also said, "We do not know anything about the iphone, all we know is that we WILL be stocking it."

And these guys aren't even listed on the "stocked" lists on the Vodafone website?!?

So im not 100% sure, but as I said, he was adement about having them.

aimsy007: After talking to a source in Vodafone I am getting somewhere close to accurate info.

Expect to pay around $1000 people.

My source confirmed they were surprised at the amount of stock they was available to each store.

A managers meeting was held mid week and orders were placed by managers for there stores on this day.

Staff receive their training just prior to stores opening.

And still no information about the cost of plans!

Interesting. Somewhat confirms what I heard as well.

I heard from vodafone that they will be selling for about $869NZD, as Martin said though, this will probably be the prepaid version. I really don't think Vodafone are dumb enough to try and charge customers body parts in order to get an iphone. (Okay.. let me rephrase. Its gonna be cheaper toget it from other countries.. are they dumb enough to want to lose money?)

As per the spreadsheet on Mactalk, the $199USD for 8GB has a TCO of $1911AUD hen you consider the cost of a 2yr contract.
With Optus and pricing of handset of $729AUD plus an $80 unlocking fee makes $1000 NZD not out of the park as the base price and then reduced depending on the YouChoose plan and what subsidies come with it.

Umm...VFNZ have already said there isn't going to be a prepaid version. They also edited that (the term "prepay") out of the press release but only on the NZ site. Sign this if you're not happy (like me) about it...

Yeah, i guess its all just speculation, but last night i was reading an article (I will find it for you soon, hopefully) and they said they vodafone and a nother company (Optus I think) will be.

So its all just rumours at the moment.

One person says this, and another says that.

Umm..how can you add the total cost of ownership/contract (ie, how much you pay for 2 years) into the total and then refer to that as the "base price" ?

Vodafone would be crazy to advertise it as "hey...this is what it's going to cost you over 2 years"

$869NZD? Who did you hear from? Really.. Optus in Oz is selling the iPhone 3G for $849AUD AT&T are selling it for $699USD on prepay/pay-as-you-go. You think NZ are going to get a 15% discount over the rest of the world. A little bit of common sense would help all this speculation.

Fair enough, sorry, I should have listed my source.

VODAFONE. I guess they're running on speculation as well.

.. Mind you, isn't nearly everything here?

It often works the other way around. Work out what the cost of item is, expected revenue and bundle and subsidise accordingly. Charge a significant price for outright purchase.
Makes it harder for the marketing pricing folk when SJ announces it will be equivalent in all countries of initial release with fair amount of ambiguity (eg $199USD)

Vodafone would be crazy to advertise it as "hey...this is what it's going to cost you over 2 years"
Not advertising (unless it was in competitive situation and the VF TCO was better
However in T&Cs and contract must disclose. (EDIT: appears not to be so in NZ, but is in AU)
