DjShadow:

The new iPad Pro now looks like its moved on from being a big-screen device for an average home user to a full on pro device for professionals (like photographers, video makers, etc). I'll be looking forward to seeing how the iPad Air evolves later on this year.

Interesting of note they didn't mention a price or release date on it

If they say at WWDC that it will dual boot IpadOS or BigSur (when used with a keyboard and mouse,) then it becomes a much more justifiable proposition - spending $2-3K on a tablet is a big ask... Spending $2-3K on a laptop is a much more justifiable purchase,,,

Of course, that would see the possibility of being able to side load Apps via Big Sur that  to then be used in IpasOS .. So maybe it wont happen...

Purple iPhone is pretty and I like the new accessory colour. Good to see them updating Apple TV. AirTags are cool, but I used to use Tile and they kind of sucked - so who knows. Glad to see HomePod coming to NZ, I think I'll pick one up.

New iMac design and colours I like a lot, but those colours will be a nightmare for retailers.

Looks like Ethernet connectivity is via a Dongle?

Nice to see the new Apple TV 4K supporting thread, in addition to Homepod Mini's finally being available in NZ.

I am annoyed that it didn't come out when the iPhone 12 originally launched (I love the colour purple). I want it but I am not going to trade in or sell my iPhone 12 white just for a colour change. That's what my purple coloured case is for.

New iMac colours are aesthetically pleasing however. However some criticism.

No 10gbps ethernet, missed opportunity to put a 120hz display as well.

I won't fault it. It's absolutely gorgeous but I think it missed the mark a little.

I really hope that BlackMagic releases a software update / native companion app to allow auto-focus assist (via liar) and direct recording over USB-C/Thunderbolt to the iPad Pro from their cameras. That would immediately make the 12.9 XDR display + 2TB option a worthwhile investment competing against other advanced capture monitors like Atomos. Essentially Atomos value prop is in software development for their ARM-based recording monitors. If you could leverage direct capture over USB-C to a fully-fledged app on iPad.. that's a freakin' game changer.

No, the Ethernet port is on the power brick.

I would much rather have had the colours that they have on the back on the front as well. Don't like the white borders and the white + slight colour that is on the lip on the front.

Hope the 27/30" version will have a dark colour as an option for the front as well.

Now that the iPad Pro has effectively become a laptop I am hoping that Time Machine will be implemented in iPadOS. It seems stupid to me that you have to plug the thing in to a Mac in order to take a complete local backup of the iPad.

Ditto, the two tone is a bit weird, looks like there is still a standard silver that seems to be the least offensive,  but the white border bites....

I mean all the M1 laptops have a black border...

The coolest part of this is that it might come to the laptops soon too (as in, a new charger that incorporates ethernet into the power brick).

See the new Apple tv remote can be purchased separately, and is compatible with older Apple TV's.

$89

Edit: And all older versions of Apple tv sold from now will include the new remote

Is this new remote needed for siri functionality on older devices?

Edit: removed the part of the question which revealed I'd forgotten about the microphone button on the old remote.

Looking at all this, I suspect the new MBPs (e.g. the rumoured 14" model or larger) and iMac Pro (27" or maybe bigger?) models will be along later in the year. So there could be a smaller base model M1 iMac, and a larger iMac Pro with likely M2 chips (and more TB controllers).

I totally would go for a space grey M2 iMac Pro with the Touch ID keyboard given half the chance!

I would also love the Touch ID keyboards to be available for use with older devices but suspect they might need Apple Silicon rather than Intel controllers for the secure enclave - but that's a guess.

Overall a pretty big release from Apple. Still waiting for the next gen of silicon MBPs though.

I don't think we will see another iMac "pro"..

It was a 2017 holding action to placate power users during the 6 year gap in any updates of the mac Pro between 2013 and 2019, it was let whither on the vine and received no updates..

its clear the M1 is a great chip for general use, the next big question is what Apple have in the bag at the power end of the curve, and how they deal with the  heat....

I know when the fans crank up on my current 27 the air coming out it pretty warm....

The other big question is upgradability, the 27 still has the ability for user added RAM  ( which I have done) as does the Mac Pro) ... Apple will have to be careful in moving some of these users to a "sealed box" environment...
