PhilipRoy:
As per the spreadsheet on Mactalk, the $199USD for 8GB has a TCO of $1911AUD hen you consider the cost of a 2yr contract.

Umm..how can you add the total cost of ownership/contract (ie, how much you pay for 2 years) into the total and then refer to that as the "base price" ?

Vodafone would be crazy to advertise it as "hey...this is what it's going to cost you over 2 years"

Phil

Total cost of ownership is required in many countries (Australia being out cloeset example) and I personally believe it should be required.

Fair point. My point was that people were saying "It's gonna sell for $1000" and then someone compared that to the total cost over 2 years...when they're two dfferent things. What you pay up front and what you get stiffed for on an ongoing contract.

allsteve: Just got a call from Melissa who said that they had limited information on pricing but that it was $199NZD.. sounds odd.. but she also mentioned there would be data plans etc on top. She could be refering to the US prices. Wait and see I guess. Mite have a chat this afternoon lol.

Sorry did you say she confirmed the pricing?

So that means we are not an exception to this rule of "199USD" price?

so about 264ish for the 8gb version..

That sounds likea nice price.. BUt i guess they'll once again rape us in DATA and Calling plans..

From what I recall that bit of the conversation went something like this...

Melissa: We got information about pricing it's going to be $199

Me: New Zealand Dollars?

Melissa: Uh, yeah. Of course there will be data plans etc.

Sorry if I just screwed up an embargoed press release. lol

That was not the point.
Might also want to consider pricing options for those already in contract and looking fro a 'Handset upgrade'.  I may have most likely been misinformed by the VFNZ CSR, however I was advised that I would not be required to break contact and resign for two years.  Therefore VF may have a base unit price for these type of situations, and then hopefully get a rebate for months left on contract (I am not holding breath on that one).
Who knows we may also get the pre-paid option (although it was not previously mentioned)

Remember Paul mentioned there would be a lot of tearing up sheets and boiling water for this birth of second child.

Lot of speculation and guessing here and not a lot of fact, so shall await when the marketing gods...

Seems like the announcement of iPhone availability at non VF stores was a little early this morning (ahead of plan)

It may not be $1000, but it's becoming really hard to believe it will be anywhere that low ($264).
