Purple iPhone is pretty and I like the new accessory colour. Good to see them updating Apple TV. AirTags are cool, but I used to use Tile and they kind of sucked - so who knows. Glad to see HomePod coming to NZ, I think I'll pick one up.

New iMac design and colours I like a lot, but those colours will be a nightmare for retailers.

I am a bit confused as to whether the air tags will work on all iphones or just the 11 and 12. Or if the 11 and 12 will just provide better accuracy. If it only works on the 11 and 12, I would have to wonder why. Edit: I see it works with iphones and ipods using 14.5 or newer, just not the better accuracy

The tile was good to a degree, in that it played a sound so it could be easily found. But they sealed the battery into mine, and their reasoning for this didn't make sense except they wanted people to pay a form of subscription. But they changed this when they released new models later on where the battery could be replaced. At least the apple ones have a replaceable battery.

Looking at all this, I suspect the new MBPs (e.g. the rumoured 14" model or larger) and iMac Pro (27" or maybe bigger?) models will be along later in the year. So there could be a smaller base model M1 iMac, and a larger iMac Pro with likely M2 chips (and more TB controllers).

I totally would go for a space grey M2 iMac Pro with the Touch ID keyboard given half the chance!

I don't think we will see another iMac "pro"..

It was a 2017 holding action to placate power users during the 6 year gap in any updates of the mac Pro between 2013 and 2019, it was let whither on the vine and received no updates..

its clear the M1 is a great chip for general use, the next big question is what Apple have in the bag at the power end of the curve, and how they deal with the  heat....

I know when the fans crank up on my current 27 the air coming out it pretty warm....

The other big question is upgradability, the 27 still has the ability for user added RAM  ( which I have done) as does the Mac Pro) ... Apple will have to be careful in moving some of these users to a "sealed box" environment...

I disagree, and one reason for this is the new imac looks ugly with the huge chin which didn't need to be there, if they made it slightly thicker, or built the MB into the stand. Also that white bezel is just bad. I can see them make a pro by putting the MB behind the screen and making the case thicker, and having a black thin bezel, and no chin. The imac pro doesn't need to be as thin as the imac, especially as the pro displays are quite thick. The pro will likely use a M1 X pro chip of some type, and if thicker, may also be upgradable.

Good point about the RAM. My 16Gb 2012 Mini is still scooting along happily with the extra RAM and i deplore Apple's desire to solder everything together (but can totally see why they do it).

The M1 chip is damn fast c.f. the Intels with remarkably low thermal output (I haven't heard of anyone getting significant fan noise out of a M1 MBP as yet); with the larger internals of an iMac and a big aluminium enclosure plus some fans this may not be as much of an issue. I thought they would opt for smaller consumer / larger pro split for the line - but as with much of these things that's a guess :-)

They don't solder Ram anymore. It's an SOC so RAM in a separate stick or chipset is gone.

You can find airtags with anything running "Find my" or you can log into icloud.com and do it there... But you only get the up close "1 metre to your left" if you have a U1 device (iphone 11,12 etc)

So will these work on our iPhone 7 iOS 14.5 as we would like to attach them to our two new eBikes.

Can't see any reason why not,

The big selling point is the mass network of all IOS devices (hundreds of millions) that make this work..

Tile had a great Idea, but Apple just ate their lunch and then supersized it in one big bite...

With more research the answer is yes. The oldest model iPhone is iPhone SE 1st generation.

Yep absolutely a rip off. Though the Belkin one is $19.95. Even so I can see 3rd party (Chinese) making a killing here with very imaginative holders and fashion accessories and with a myriad of connection methods.

If you want an hermes airtag keyring , if is about $500 !

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MX872AM/A/airtag-herm%C3%A8s-key-ring

These don't seem to be for sale in NZ, so maybe they didn't think NZers were rich enough and wouldn't ever pay $500 for a keyring.

Not sure why airtags are $55 in NZ, when converting $29 US is about $NZ40. Why not just make them $50

just bear in mind that if you attach it something that gets stolen, and the thief has an iPhone they will get notified that they are being tracked and will undoubtedly discard said tracker. These are designed to find misplaced items rather than tracking stolen goods.
