allsteve: Just got a call from Melissa who said that they had limited information on pricing but that it was $199NZD.. sounds odd.. but she also mentioned there would be data plans etc on top. She could be refering to the US prices. Wait and see I guess. Mite have a chat this afternoon lol.

Sorry did you say she confirmed the pricing?

So that means we are not an exception to this rule of "199USD" price?

so about 264ish for the 8gb version..

That sounds likea nice price.. BUt i guess they'll once again rape us in DATA and Calling plans..

From what I recall that bit of the conversation went something like this...

Melissa: We got information about pricing it's going to be $199

Me: New Zealand Dollars?

Melissa: Uh, yeah. Of course there will be data plans etc.

Sorry if I just screwed up an embargoed press release. lol

It may not be $1000, but it's becoming really hard to believe it will be anywhere that low ($264).

Yeah, I understand what you mean, but is it really that hard to believe if you are on a 2 year contract?
I mean, they're gonna ramp up the charges no doubt. So after you consider all the money you put into the contract, the price really isnt too hard to believe (Assuming thats the price, of course)

allsteve:

Sounds like she doesnt really know
what shes talking about, just reading Apples press talking about the
US! Lets hope Im wrong :)

Yeah that's what I thought
too.. ah the media. They try. But then again maybe.. noo.. but maybe..
but no it couldn't be? Could it? My head hurts.

Haha, yeah one only hopes that it's true, and shes not just going off the Press Release and/or Conference based on the US pricing.
That'd be a little embarassing, I would think, so I would say she would have at least have her arse covered, wouldn't you? Because all it would take is one of us to ask the question of "Where did you get your information" or "Do you have proof of this?"

When you look at the Vodafone online store the best hint would be the N95 now on 'special' for $499 on a 24 month $59.95 contract ie a $2000 phone which would be $1500 for two years of $20 a month prepay top ups. So yeah it isn't hard to believe a 'low' price phone when you know it is going to be on a contract.

MattD: That was not the point.
Might also want to consider pricing options for those already in contract and looking fro a 'Handset upgrade'.

Right...but the conversation was over a $1000 NZ price tag and the relation of that to the famous $199 USD price tag. They're both purchase costs (in the case of NZ, purely speculation). You then added up ongoing costs to reach the $1000 being mentioned. If you're going to do that, you might as well look at the ongoing cost calculations from overseas and say they phone will actually be a few thousand.

That CAN'T be NZD $199, can it?

I'm guessing how many minutes their site will be up before we DDoS them trying to buy online?

I would've... Nothing else but an invitation for the media for a briefing AFTER the launch.
