bnr034: Wonder if people that has pre-order with voda/telecom will get their iPhone 5s by Friday morning???

Isn't the iPhone 5s next years model? ;-)

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Nyuk nyuk. You have just let Cupertino's 2013 secret out of the bag!
All this conjecture of when? where? what plan? is straight out of Apple's marketing manual. These days however, they struggle to maintain the mystery because the launch is the same as the previous 4 iterations. Not knowing heightens expectation. So when you get to the counter (having queued for 6, 12, 18 hours) and they say "no outright purchases" ,you will respond by signing your life away on a 2 year contract because the mystery that has built your expectation up so much, it must be realised by walking away with a handset.
Reports of low supply and increasing waiting times, also straight out of the marketing manual. Psychology 101.

Tell someone they can't have something, and they want it all the more. I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't be getting mine for a few weeks.

FYI Pre-orders for iPhone 5 has just reopened on Vodafone's sight. Thinking if I can live with just an arm and a leg :)

You might have to get used to the sole arm and a leg for a two year period...

Any update on any retailers who might be selling these handset-only tomorrow or midnight tonight?

Failing that, what time should we expect to be able to purchase online from Apple.co.nz?

This might answer your question.. http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/7732675/Midnight-launch-for-iPhone-5

Looks like major centres are getting a midnight launch. Failing that, normal Telecom/Vodafone stores will be at normal business hours (either 8-9am). I'd imagine other retail stores (Dick Smith, JB HiFi, etc) would also be selling them at their normal business hours but availability of stock is unknown...

I wonder if I pre-order then cancel my contract to stay on my Smart1 iPhone plan.... Or can you not have two plans at once? Maybe go and get one from Telecom then pay the cancellation fees! :-)

I've been tempted in the last few months to look at an S3, but that means ditching the hundreds of dollars worth of apps I have on my iPhone. And my perfect score on Angry Birds ;o)

So who's joining me in the "refresh the Apple site every hour from midnight" party?

if you have invested heavily in your iphone.. then thats a different story

but just browse through google's play store and see all the apps that you have already paid for on iOS, if they are much cheaper or free (like all angry birds are free), then you might not face that much of a hurdle jumping ship..

well I suppose you could (from either vf or Telecom), but check out the termination fees first they might make it a pretty nasty experience.

Yeah just looked - I'd be paying $400 extra for the phone. Maybe not.
