freitasm: So if your router doesn't see the Internet but you still want to connect to access an internal server... You can't?

Wow...

You can.

What it actually does is load http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html and verify that it returns "Success". The idea is that if any other HTML is returned then you're running on a public network and need to buy credit, agree to TOS, etc. It then automatically opens Safari so that you can do this.

The problem is that Safari gets "locked down" when you do this; you can't go to a site of your choosing until it gets that "Success" response. Today that address was returning 404 so it was going into "public network mode".

If you're on a closed network with no Internet access then the connection to www.apple.com will fail in the first place without returning any HTML, and it won't go into "public mode".

macuser: was Siri on iPad before ios6? it is now, runs in a little popup instead of over the whole screen. Siri is cool, in a gimmicky way.

Is yours an ipad 2 or 3? It is on the ipad 3 but not on the ipad2 with ios6, and I don't think that it will run on the ipad2, even though the hardware is capable of it.

Apple stated early on that there was going to be no Siri for the iPad 2.

Just like there's no turn by turn directions for iPhone 4, despite there being enough horsepower there for it...

I've installed on an iPod touch and 3GS iPhone and seems a wee bit faster than 5.1.1 currently upgrading the iPad 2

I looked at the list of what is available where.

If you are in the USA, Canada or the UK, you're sweet - you have between 95% and 100% of what is available.

Elsewhere, a declining scale.

NZ gets about 65% of iOS6 capability on an iPhone 4, perhaps 70% on a 4S or 5.

I'm still slightly irked by the fact that we do not get any books in iBooks (other than really old ones) nor any TV shows in iTunes.

I know why we don't, but the business model that stops it really needs to change. If I were an author, I'd be getting a US publisher and negotiating so that they had worldwide distribution to bypass the parochialism.

Nor Siri for the iPhone 4 despite the same horsepower proviso!

Forgive my post if its been discussed. I am not an apple fan at all, but I know how reliable and simple to use their products are, so I bought the wife the new iPad upon launch. updated today to iOS 6 for her, and the biggest gripe we have after the update is the lack of YouTube?
I see there is a phone YouTube app but no iPad app, any reason for this?

I do like the maps in standard view, but in satellite view it really is horrible, nothing google earth or maps.google in the browser can't fix.

IIRC, the removal of the You Tube app was reported widely some while ago. Never saw the point of it myself - you can just open YT in Safari like you would on a desktop machine, surely?

Iphone 4 though doesn't have the same processor as the ipad 2 and iphone 4s which both have the A5 chip. The iphone 4 only has the A4 chip, so it is more understandable that it doesn't have siri. I think the ipad2 is more intentionally crippled so there is a bigger difference between the ipad 2 and 3

However, some time ago now, it was proved that a jailbroken iPhone 4 would run Siri quite happily. Most of the heavy lifting in Siri is done on servers down the line not on the handset.

That is probably true, but I am sure apple would argue that it will diminish it's performance in other areas, or battery life etc. It is the same thing with older iphones and ipods where newer on IOS version, they didn't get wall paper or a battery percentage indicator. However you could jailbreak them and get those features, and it didn't change noticable performance. But I guess apple also wants points of difference between thr models, so older models are always going to have less features than newer ones. eg if the iphone 4 had siri, people really had no need to update to the 4s, apart from a very slightly better camera.
