I've rolled my 4S back to 5.1.1.

- Maps have too many errors.
- App Store "card view" is buggy; cards sometimes don't swipe and the count at the bottom of the screen becomes incorrect once this happens (for example, swipe 10 cards to the right, have two fail, then when you swipe back to the first card it'll say that you're on #3).
- I installed a new app then tried to move its icon before launching it, and this gave an exception. This resulted in the App Store getting stuck on "Installing".
- There's no obvious way to get the App Store back into "list view" which is a nightmare if your search returns mutiple results.
- I've noticed the "data spinner" pop up in the top bar when I go into the Music app, even with Match disabled. What is it doing?

Hopefully these issues will be resolved soon!

How have you got it when it has not been released yet? I just wonder if you got it from an "unofficial source" in which case who knows if what you have is the final gold version or not.

It's supposed to be out today, but maybe some devices/accounts get it sooner than others?

Just wondering how the best way to backup the device prior to updating, so you don't lose ios5.1.1. Do you go into the folder that stores the backup and copy it somewhere else. I don't think it is easy to revert back to a previous IOS version easily once the backup has been overwritten by the newer IOS.

It's direct from the Apple developer site; nothing unofficial here :)

Currently you can just hold Option while clicking Restore in iTunes and then browse to the 5.1.1 ROM (which is easily located via Google) but this will stop working shortly after the release of 6. It gets trickier after that, but I don't have any first-hand experience.

Back up your iTunes backup :)

Guess it is even trickier or impossible to revert back, if you never sync it to the computer, but use the devices own updater over wifi.

If you are even considering downgrading iOS, download tiny umbrella and backup your shsh blobs before apple stops signing them.

The only way to downgrade is to use these files to trick iTunes into thinking your downgrade is the latest version. if you don't get these files before apple stops signing them, there is no way to downgrade.

I can post a proper guide when I am back at my computer, just posting using my phone right now.

Maps, looks great, but that now seems to be will be great one day. Odd as I assumed if it was TomTom based, it would be, well, TomTom based. Or is it too much to expect it will be similar to a seperate car TomTom GPS unit in terms of standard features?

Recommendations for a third party replacement?

Hee, or do I buy the TomTom app!

I have the Tom Tom app...use it often and find it to be excellent. And they do free map updates fairly regularly.

IOS6 Running Fine on my 4S,

Maps is good the directions and voice directions works well, and reroutes,

stays on with lockscreen, and awakes the screen when it has something to announce.

POI's are off it seems, but there has been lots of threads about that elsewhere, but directions works well and nice to view and clear with all the street names visible. Thats about as far as ive got.

For those that are real fans of google maps, im sure they will do an App like they have for YouTube now that doesnt come as default.

The update to 6.0 was available on my 4S this morning when I woke up.  Downloaded while I was in the shower and installed on the bus.  No problems, but I haven't tried much except the maps.

Satellite view is super low res, black and white in some parts.  No street view.   Checked out what NY city looks like, the 3D buildings look average on the large screen of the iPad 3rd gen.  I wouldn't expect parity with Google maps for at least a couple years, so I think I'll keep using that.  Although don't really ever need maps on my iPad.

Have installed on my ipad 2 and iphone 3GS.

Wow has massively improved the lag on the 3GS, feels smooth again. I was thinking I might need a 5, I think I will hold to old faithful a bit longer...

Ipad2 - meh, not really any different although the clock app is pretty nice.
