Personally I would rather have a phone like the N95, it has 3G, can take video and it isn't heavily locked down (battery included)

I dissagree...Although I have used neither device I would have an iPhone
I'm a fan of Apple products...To ME they just seem much better thought out, I'm not going to get many kicks out of 3G(Nokia) but I'm going to use the iPhones tight intergration with iTunes and my MacBook.

When a device offers many features, how well are these accessable? Thats always been a point I like to think about, I dont want to have to install new specialised software to take advantage of something, I just want it to work with what I have right now.

I know Nokias great, I don't doubt that, but I just like Apple better.

I personally think, Many will be pleased with the iPhone.
I think the Nokia N95 caters to a much more hardcore market, those who are willing to put alot of effort into making it work for them.

Just my 2 cents! :-P

I think they've made a mistake by making it pretty much touch screen only. Unless it's got a really flat edge. My K-Jam has a 2mm lip around it and the touch screen requires the use of the thumb finger nail to use - unlike an old fashioned cellphone where you have hard buttons you'd use the pad of your thumb to press a button.

This is why I chose a k-jam over a jam - give me a full keyboard any day

Indeed I can Type Really fast on a Treo, but with practise I could type nearly as fast on a iPhone, and the iPhone has threaded messaging(similar to IM) which is a killer app for me (just like it was for my Treo 650, I hate when your using a normal phone and you're replying to a message, but forgot what they said and you have to go all the way back and check plus i could have 1000's of txts in my inbox on my Treo and it would manage it brilliantly).

Anyway I figure we should all atleast try the iPhones keyboard, each to there own I guess, plus I'm alot younger (16) so I will be alot more nimble than many of you

The issue I have with any smartphone dial by touching the screen is the need to look where your fingers are going when typing. Perhaps if they had some raised bumps on the screen around the home letters or something to that you had some tactile feedback where you were touching it would be better. With this, you gotta look at it to see where you are, and your fingers are in the way most of the time anyway.

That's the interesting thing. Apple didn't seem to have a large role in driving this hype, other than announcing the product, and playing a few ads on TV.

Someone estimated they ended up with US$400 Million in 'free' exposure.

I suspect if Apple had have had it their way, they wouldn't have preanounced it at all. They don't do that normally... for a reason.

Many of these components are reminicisent of HTC smart phone design, the GSM radio is a part by Skyworks and should be compatible with most GSM networks, but the SoC (CPU) made by Samsung, it is not documented AFAIK, then there is software locking to fix. I think with some hacking effort the iPhone could be coerced into working on GSM networks, but don't quote me on that. I would watch the pace of hacking efforts closely.

The 802.11 / Bluetooth chip is particularly interesting, drawing only 400mW (roughly half that of other ultra low power wifi chips)... now I can see how the long battery life claims may actually be close to realistic.

The CPU is most likely a Samsung ARM11 core, likely a close derivitive of this chip here:
