I'm waiting for Lightbox, TVNZ, TV3, and preferably Sky FanPass apps. Then I may buy 2.

GSManiac: I just bought one. Disappointed we don't get the Siri remote however.

Which is why I will not buy one.

I have Siri on my iPad and iphone, voice dictation on my Mac so I can not see why no Siri on the Apple TV.

So, will be waiting .... still....

I don't have any proof but I would imagine that Siri will work in the future with a software update in NZ...or perhaps it would work if you sign in with a US iTunes account. I wouldn't have thought they would make two types of hardware, one with Siri and one without. The NZ version has a "search" button which will work like voice control on iPhones with Siri turned off.

The hardware isn't identical. NZ doesn't get a Siri remote so no microphones. Even if you change location to US you will need to buy a remote from a supported country to use it.

So your saying that the search function only opens a search window for typing in what your looking for? No microphone thats stink.

So are you suggesting the Siri remote in the picture on the NZ Apple website showing the search button with a microphone on it is not what we'll receive?

I'm pretty certain we'll find the hardware is identical and Siri is a software feature which will only be available to certain countries at launch and then rolled out to more countries just as it has with iOS devices

This answer from an apple staff member on the developer forum suggests the hardware is the same it's just a matter of waiting for them to enable it. Of course Apple staff have been wrong before....

"The same hardware—including the microphones—will be shipped in all countries.

In countries where Siri feature is not available, the Siri/Search button will open the onscreen search app instead."

Do you have a source for that. I'm seeing conflicting information, which has me wondering if people are getting confused as to what constitutes a "Siri remote".

I found this thread, which tends to indicate that the hardware will be identical, and Siri access is being blocked at the software level.

From what I have read, there a different remotes for different regions. A Siri remote with mic and a standard touch remote. I guess only time will tell.

The old simple remote will still be used for the old Apple TV but all the new ones will include the Siri remote with mic, although Siri will not be enabled initially in many regions. Not sure why this is still being debated when Apple has confirmed on their forums.
