chiefie: if what @boby55 posted is correct... it think there will be no official carrier in NZ market for iPhone 4. It will be from retail shops like how iPad was launched last week. Which does make a better sense as in NZ it's in an unlocked device anyway... and the iPhone buyers can have greater freedom to pick a carrier they prefer, rather than being locked to Vodafone's terms contract.

Though this does mean the iPhone 4 may be beyond minority of people that can't get it off "cheap".

With this approach I hope it has a revised AppleCare though, meaning that it should/could be an international AppleCare warranty rather than country-specific?

I wouldn't take anything of that to heart tho, I just rung again and got a complete other story from a apple rep

I don't think they have been told anything yet.

Well a VF store told me the official line is the launch has been cancelled. He red me an email that was sent from VF HQ around 5pm. The email said that VF was cancelling the launch and no further information would be released.

But then he quietly said there's no way it's being cancelled, but that their store had been allocated an extremely limited stock. He also said VF "might be" releasing new iPhone plans in the morning.

There is obviously a limited amount of iPhone 4's in the world (sold out overseas in the first wave and still very strong demand) and apple will only be releasing enough in New Zealand to get the "Apple Buzz" going. A phone selling out on day one is a good thing for publicity as it makes a powerful headline.

I believe this is all a manufactured release to get us all talking about it. This is the same story for every major Apple release. It is all part of the plan.

I don't think they have been told anything yet.

Apple has made a statement regarding NZ release, it's just tat Vodafone wasn't part of it.

So VF are not on the authorised reseller list, yet they have iPhone4 display stands (the Chartwell store I went to an hour ago), but no phones. WTF?

Oh well, if VF are trying to generate hype then they've failed, I'll be buying from PowerHouse or Magnum Mac tomorrow (assuming there is a release of sorts).

If VF have been left out in the cold at the 11th hour then that's a shame and I'm keen to hear why, guess we find out tomorrow.

So if Vodafone have been pulled as the "official" carrier, I am best to go to a MagnumMac?

Wow so confusing.. Firstly its like hey Vodafone retail is your best bet and now I don't know what to think...

All I know is that I am going to be so tired tomorrow!

The press release a few days back read this:

"iPhone 4 will be available for outright purchase for a recommended retail price starting from NZD$1,099 inc GST through Apple?s online store (www.apple.com/nz/store), and select Apple Authorised Resellers (www.apple.com/nz/buy)."

It never mentions vodafone and I bet tomorrow morning it will be on sale in store. I guessing Apple pulled the pin on vodafone knowing they alone would have a huge demand and there is likely a very limited amount and with people already on contracts they just want them in the stores... This is Apples product after all not vodafones... But who knows!

No matter what happens, VF have had their reputation tarnished by this fracas. Totally unacceptable to not comment either way IMHO.

A lot of people moved from XT when they had reception problems not so long ago, with VF picking up the majority of them. One would have thought VF would have wanted to retain customers, not lose them.

I have been with VF/Bellsouth since day 1. Am seriously considering a move to XT because of this debacle.

Yup. It will be the same as the iPad launch last week. Pay full price and get the choice about who you hook up with.

Totally agree 100%. Change BogBeast, iPhone and XT were made for each other.
