profrink: I'm interested.
I'm probably one of the few that is looking at a move from Android to iOS.
Had the original iPhone but sold it shortly after coming back to NZ. I was still young and a Telecom CDMA faithful, meaning that I did not want to make the move to Vodafone to use it. I knew it was great - but it felt very before its time trying to use it here, so I quickly dismissed it despite the girl (and thief) magnet that it was.
My somewhat underwhelming impressions of the iPhone (due to not being able to utilize it properly) stuck with me right through to when the iPhone 4 was released. I knew the 4 was good - and boy was it sexy. But by this point I was loving how fast I could rattle off SMS with the full QWERTY keyboard on my Nokia E71 and its form factor. Plus I had just dropped a grand on a phone with the XT launch, like hell I was upgrading a year later.
I resisted the touchscreen change... resistive screens didn't help the cause much either. But I finally bit and got into the Android scene due to price point. I liked it because of the techiness and the price. Us Android users could 'do more' - similar feelings kept me with Windows. But then I moved to OSX. A move I had vowed I'd never do. And I liked it.
I stayed with Android but really disliked OEM roms being produced. I had faith in Android as an OS, but felt manufactures weren't getting it right. I admired Huawei for adopting 'naked' stock roms, but good available handsets from them were limited. The Nexus 4 answered my prayers, a similar sexy iPhone look but with stock Android as Google intended.
But after all these years, I'm a bit bored with Android. I'd liken it to my switch from Windows to OSX. Just wanted a change. So with the release of iOS 7 and pending new iPhone release, my interest has been spiked. I just want things to work and look good. Maybe I've become boring.
Will I like it? Maybe. Will I go back to Android? High possibility. If I stick with it, like I did with OSX then I should be OK. But my gut tells me that iOS and Android are not on as close of a playing field as Windows and OSX are.
/end first ever blog.
sdav: Does anyone know if Apple are going to sacrifice some features on the 5C that will impact iOS 7 features?
