They even state here that there is two separate remotes. It states it explicitly.

Interesting.. although it has the same picture for both and has the hole for the microphone so I'm pretty confident they are the same and they just can't call it 'Siri Remote' in countries where Siri is disabled at launch.

Doesn't matter, they won't be getting my money until we get the whole thing. I am damned if I am going to pay extra $$ for a hobbled product.

This is software. So I am guessing you won't get it after Siri is available either. Because there will be lots of apps that you can't use because they are only available for the US market.

"It's also unclear whether Apple TVs purchased outside of the initial eight will gain Siri access at a later date, via software or firmware update. Technical specifications show that the Siri Remote includes dual microphones, but those microphones are not shown on the Apple TV Remote, suggesting that a hardware change could be required."

In typical Apple fashion, there is no clear answer here until the NZ models ship - and even then who knows when/if an update will come to enable Siri (assuming the full remote is provided)

I really cannot see the need, I have Apple devices (iMac, iPhone, MacBook) and use my Xbox One for anything the Apple TV may do in NZ. My Stereo (Denon) does Airplay etc so no need for music through one. I had a V2 Apple TV and barely used it and eventually gave it away.

I have ordered a 64GB model. I mainly wanted it for the extended app store. The price is a bit on the steep side, but I'm hoping the potential to combine many devices into one will pay off as more third party apps become available. It's shipping for delivery between 3-5 November. Once I have it I'll log into my US iTunes account (as I have done with my 3rd Gen) and geo-unblock and see if I can confirm whether Siri will work or not.

It seems highly unusual that they would not give themselves the option of enabling it in the future by shipping a remote that is missing some of the functionality. If that is the case, however, it might be worth trying to pick one up from Aussie or the US at some stage and trying it out - assuming they will be available for separate purchase at some stage.

Edit: A colleague at work just looked up the tech specs - the weight is the same at 47g for both the US and NZ remotes, which would suggest identical hardware (unless the microphones are so very light that they make no difference either way). You can buy additional Siri remotes for $79 in the US store.

Bought the Nimbus gamepad for the new Apple TV, looks and feel quite promising. Can't wait to get to try them out.

First review I've seen of the new Apple TV.

Good advice.

I see this as potentially great (looking at you TV1/3)

Games, yeah, something extra to play with

Any useful apps other than streaming? Possibly

My hope is one STB for streaming

Oh, and its a 1.0 product

Its a 1.0 product? How do you reckon? I count 3 previous versions of the Apple TV.
