she has sent it back to the shop and they are going to take it back to 1.1.4 i think

She sent it back to the shop because the hacked firmware she put on it does not work? I cant see that going well....

well it can't be a shop that will care much since it's a 2g iphone i'm assuming...

either way, its a simple process using pwnagetool if she has access to a mac. otherwise go back to 2.0.2 using winpwn and wait for winpwn for 2.1 to come out. stay clear of the quickpwn tools, they don't let you do any of the customisations of settings and losing that control can turn out badly, as she's discovered.

So if she uses pqnage what she she change in the settings? I have only used pwnage and dont eh qucik or simple setup

there's talk of problems with some of the newer solutions like quickpwn. it's not that much slower to use the whole pwnagetool so i always suggest using that and only that. i've never had any real problems except a bad firmware that i created once, but that was fixed by recreating it again. i posted some instructions elsewhere on how i use pwnagetool so have a quick search and you should find them.

Since updating to 2.1 I've noticed two problems:
1) My email is supposed to check every 15 minutes, but I often check when it was last checked and find it was several hours ago.
2) It often gets stuck on "No Service" even when there is coverage and doesn't change between 2G and 3G automatically when it should (manually turning 3G on and off corrects it). It would shock me if there really was no service in Shortland Street.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Email seems to be an issue here with MobileMe mail (2 accounts, one push one fetch) and POP accounts.

Hi guys,
I have been reading several threads here and I'm confused. I have a 1st generation 1.1.4 iPhone, I hacked it using ZiPhone back in Feb this year, and later upgraded it from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 and used ZiPhone for that again.
I wanna load 2.1 on it to make use of its noticeable speed improvement and the app store :)
Can someone load some clear instructions on how I should go about doing this? There is a lot of confusion about what tools to use etc. I'm a windows user but can get hold of a mac if it's necessary to do so. I've read about using quickpwn but then again I'm seeing 1st gen users getting bricked on this thread.
If it's possible to do what I want to do, can someone post some clear instructions?

There are ways to do it currently but they are very much beta.

the new version of winpwn for the 2.1 firmware has been out for days now

My friend is the only one I know of that had some issues with going from 1.1.4 to 2.1 but it is all done now

It is very very easy to do

Using a Mac to do it seems easier than windows as I have done it both ways but hey either is not hard at all

You basically start but downloading itunes 8
Allowing it to update to 2.1 on your phone
Then use qikpwn or winpwn or the pwnage full program to either activate it and or jail break it....

If the phone is currently activated with Ziphone or whatever then simply useing itunes to update to 2.1 often leaves it still activated but no jailbreak   My flatmate did this and doesnt care about jailbreaking.
So if you dont need it jail broken and most of us dont care now the app store is here, then that may work for you
I have had some issues with Cydia screwing my phone up when updating itself or adding a jailbroken app so I steer well clear of cydia or jail breaking now as I personally cant spend hours restoreing it form scratch... it has done that to me on 2-3 occasions.

I suggest a couple of things.
Make sure that edge is ON before updating
If EDGE was OFF when the last backup in itunes was done and you restore it from a backup it will switch EDGE OFF! There is no way to turn EDGE back on if this happenes without jailbreaking the phone and installing Boss Prefs which has an EDGE switch

I tend to set the iphone as a new phone when doing a big firmware leap like this, unless u really need all those txt messages.
I mean it syncs with itunes and your contacts and email accounts on your computer anyway even if you start from fresh.
It just seems to be cleaner to start fresh and less likely to drag some problem over

Bottom line is it is easy with any of the pwn based iPhone Dev team apps

Found this now, dunno if i wanna go through all the trouble of downgrading though. If anyone gives it a go and it works Id be keen to know!

ok im on vista and want to get to 2.1

So I download quickpwn for windows.
update itunes and download the lastest update?
then fire up quickpwn?

Do I need to update my phone to 2.1 via itunes first?

ok updated 2g to 2.1 on vista using this link..
