I think you mean 2.0...

Here is what it is supposed to improve:

iPod touch 2.1 update was released a few days ago at the Let's Rock event. Thank god it's free for already 2.0 customers.

The iPhone 2.1 update was released yesterday.

I haven't tried the iPod touch update yet - I'm trying to survive on 3GB over 2 weeks on my broadband...

Had the 2.1 update on my iPod since it came out a few days ago. The battery lasts longer, genius playlists are awesome and everything seems more stable.

hmmm everyting seems good here, except for location services.

When I turn it off programs ask to use my location and then fail when I allow them to use it. However with it turned on in the settings first it works fine.

Anyone else having this problem?

I am too scared to try my pwnaged 2.02 ist gen US bought iPhone I dont mind loosing the jail break bit but I am worried that iTunes 8 combined with 2.1 on the above phone will mean my phone gets bricked... or will it stay activated  ?
Anyone got any comments or tried this combo?

Loving 2.1! Atlast my iPhone is acting like it should, sure it's still not perfect, but what an improvement. The general UI is smoother, contacts app is definetly faster and apps actually work and don't crash!

Here are some things I've also noticed (some already pointed out):

New 3G logo
New GPRS logo
Contacts App Faster
MUCH faster backup
Apps quicker to install from App Store
Apps stay in place after install (YAY!)
Genius (at first I thought it should have been called idiot) is just Genius!
Y! button in Weather App now works (takes you to http://intl.m.yahoo.com)
Apps show in iTunes 8 on your iPhone seperately and in green. (used to be included with other, see picture below)

Since iTunes 8, the Carrier Update finally worked and we now have the option of changing the APN.

Individual Apps can't turn on Location Services if you have switched it off in settings, it is merley asking if you would like to allow the program to use the service, not to enable/disable it. The apps are also pre-programmed to ask if you would like to use it, they can't tell if you have switched it off, so if you do turn it off in settings and then tell an app to use it, it will fail.

To change this Apps would need to have a detect feature added to them to see if it is turned on/off in settings and then apply the appropriate action dependent on your choice (personally mine is always on).

Cheers

hey guys I just updated my pwned 2.0.2 first gen iPhone to the 2.1 firmware and amazingly stayed activated! I would not reccomend it though as I think I just got lucky with the steps I took.

My fone was pwned at 2.0.2 only to bypass activation ( didn't jailbreak). Downloaded the 2.1 update through iTunes. Disconnected from the internet and itunes said cannot connect to update server so I did a shift/option click on update and selected the 2.1 firmware. It updated and returned to iTunes activated with all my music apps etc still on the iphone. And the new firmware is awesome.

It should be pwned very soon as the iPod touch 2.1 firmware is pwned already at www.quickpwn.com

For all the windows users wanting to try and jailbreak 2.1 it is possible, apparently it works for 3G and 2.5G iphones (haven't tried it as I've got a mac)

I tried going from 1.1.4 to 2.1 tonight and have a temp brick now too.  I tried that tool on quickpwn.com and it didn't work for me.  Just left me in a restart loop.  I haven't managed to unbrick it yet...

Wait - I've just returned it to a 'please activate' message for 2.1.  Ahh well.  I'm sure an activation bypasser will be released sometime soon..
