It has been stated the front camera will for now, only work using Wifi....which is hopeless.....and only between other iPhone 4 phones.....which makes is uttery useless for now

The Facetime video calling seems to be very limited - only works over WiFi. So how often will two people both be on WiFi at the same time? Perhaps the idea is to encourage its usage in the home.

The API is apparently open so will be interesting to see whether that allows others to make it work over 3G.

Who ever said Apple follow standards? The 3GPP video calling is established as a standard and have been available for years now. But Apple is not a company to follow standards.

$301NZD... hmm... add Vodafone markup... anyone want to guess on pricing for just the handset once Vodafone launches it here ? ;)

If they can get the handset landed and available for sub $500, Id be in for one.

Just remember thats on contract......................

and as people know - Vodafone's iPhone plans aren't Wallet friendly.

In saying that though, if I could get the iPhone for 700-900ish, with a decently prices plan, I would sign.

From Gizmodo's blog post of 'Why is AT&T suddenly so generous?' The chart reveals that the full price (no commitment) of 32GB iPhone 4 is USD699 which is NZD1060.51 without GST and markup.

I'd hunch a say that Vodafone NZ may still be selling this at around NZ1399 RRP without plan.

As for FaceTime, or video calling. I actually don't think that's such a problem working on WiFi only at the moment. They did say they got to work out with the carrier, much like Skype over 3G issue I'd say. It could potentially be working with iChat on MacOS X. I don't think FaceTime is actually kinda like video calling though, considering that, it might need your @mobileme.com or @aol.com login.

The whole package looks pretty good, but I see a few gaps that will keep me away.

I wouldn't pay that much for a phone I can't swap a fresh battery into if I need to.

There are phones that do what iPhone does - and more - and no requirement for iTunes as a content / data filtration system. They also offer options like a physical keyboard and screens of various sizes....and phones to suit a range of budgets.

Apple's one size doesn't fit all....and I'm one of those it doesn't fit. So the price isn't the only thing.

It is one major reason I do not like Apple.

They make some great devices, no arguement there...but Apple dont play well with others....
Ya gota use all Apple softwae, or special Apple hardware to get things to work...at a much greater expense of course...
And again the old arguement....thier system is so locked down...giving Apple total control, maximising thier profit making chances....and limiting what users can do.

Meh.

I will wait for the successor to the HTC Desire....thats my next mobile...an Android

Our iPhone plans offer higher levels of value per dollar than other plans we have.

More details on Vodafone's iPhone plans are available here.

The iPhone 80 plan, for example, includes the 32GB 3GS device for $799. $599 for the 16GB.

You can of course buy the phone outright.

Don't forget, those US prices are on a plan with AT&T. I haven't seen a RRP yet.

You could always go to the apple store online, and buy a 32Gb iphone for $1100 outright........ They're up there now at that price, cheaper than the black 16gb version.
Im just waiting for funds to clear to get my own, use it for a few months, and offload it to the GF and get myself the iphone 4.
