I have to admit, the Slate does look appealing. I might end up getting one if the price is right.

But to get this back ON topic.

I actually thought there would be more people interested in this that there is.

Maybe everyone though they'd just pre-order?

Because its a pure luxury device device. Aside from the Pads merits or lack of depending on where you sit, an iPhone replaces your phone and ipod, an easy sell to people, even if they are "financially challenged".

What device does this replace? None, just a shiny new toy, that will need 5 other toys to be efficient, so the initial uptake will be alot slower than any previous Apple devices.

Not sure about that. The number of pre-orders for the iPad is higher than it was for the first iPhone release...

I've been following this thread for a while as I'm interested in picking up an iPad.  The price is quite the stumbling block though, along with delays to its availability.

Over the weekend I saw a link to the Enso Zenpad - no idea whether these guys are reputable or not but they're selling a nifty looking Android pad right now for around $200 NZD.  Its a bit smaller than the iPad but a fraction of the cost and available right now.

I'm holding off to see the actual reviews but if they pan out then I think I'll say sayonara to my iPad aspirations!

Sorry to hijack this thread but through it would be relevant for other lurkers like me.

Best regards,
Aaron Davidson.

Am in Vegas at the moment, pre-ordered one for pickup on the 3rd (did this a few days ago). Will update when I get it...

I doubt this would be the case, but my only concern is that with the iPad initially only launching in the US, does that mean the iPad Store (so to speak) containing all the apps specifically made for the iPad on iTunes will only be available to US iTunes customers? Much the same as it is now if you click on a link to the store but the app isn't available here in NZ at which point you get the message saying so.

Hard to say.

My guess is it would only be open to the US market to start with. (Or the countries its being launched in, first).

So you might be stuck. Although, you will be able to download the normal iphone apps as far as I'm aware. And to be honest, I don't think you'll miss much till everyone has got their hands on it. iPad apps wouldn't exactly be very popular right now I would imagine since no-one has a device.

(Yes, I know people are already building them, but the fact is, nearly all of the iPhone apps will work on it in the time being)

Yeah I can just imagine someone buying this thing from the US before it's launched here and not being able to download any tailor-made iPad apps. Combine that with the iBookstore app not being available here until later and you have yourself a very expensive placemat!

You should be able to hook yourself up with a US address via one of the shipping services mentioned in the Nexus One thread. Get your credit card mailing address changed as some have done when ordering the Nexus and you should be fine.

I purchased the original iphone via Apple US using a NZ credit card with a US shipping address so it should be OK.

I wouldn't actually mind tbh.

As long as I could access the already avaliable apps, plus the internet and still watch my movies on it, oh, and browse some websites. I'd be pretty pleased. My iPhone screen is too small.

But yeah, true, All I can think of right now, is me sitting at my table, with the iPad being used as a coaster, playing a movie while I eat dinner.
