I'm keen to see if the new glass is better at scratch resistance as the last few models seem to scratch very easily.
I am wondering about this too. My XS Max seems to have been very scratch prone so I'm more concerned about that than the impact resistance.

mmWave 5G is limited to the states I see. I wonder if it's just a firmware/software update to enable if other countries get mmWave in the future or if they have different radio chips in them.
If you look at the US v Rest of World Iphone, there is a patch on the right hand side of the rail of the US version for mmWave. So no. It wouldn’t be enabled in future elsewhere.
Aucklandjafa: Strange how none of the NZ telcos, and retailers, have the iPhone 12 plasted on their websites - hopefully it’s still on track for pre-orders and launch!
Global airfreight is seriously gummed up at the moment..... I would guess vendors are being a bit cautious not to end up with lots of outraged customers awaiting product.
As a comparison, the new iPad is still listed as a 3-4 week wait at the apple store on certain models....

Edit: Crikey, starting at $1349 for the Mini (64GB) - Plus I'd have to buy a charger. Lol
I can't believe that in this day and age, they are starting at 64gb still...the absolute minimum nowadays should be 128gb - even when everyone theoretically has cloud storage.
Apps are getting huge, photo and video files are already large and you'd burn through 64gb very quickly, I feel.
The pro models already are 128GB min. But they have just released a brand new ipad with 32GB...
Most apps aren't that big. Maybe some 3D games are. Yes, photo and videos are huge, but even 128Gb is going to fill up fairly quickly. That is why they have icloud, as their business is also the subscription model. 64GB is fine for many. They were stuck at 16GB as the minimum spec for a long time, before moving up to 32GB.

Agreed on the global airfreight issues, though Apple NZ are already showing the iPhone 12 products on their website and starting to take orders from 17/10 at 1am. I would have thought that the NZ telcos and retailers would want to be selling from the same time as Apple NZ, otherwise they miss out on sales.
The global airfreight issues would impact Apple NZ as well as the NZ telcos and retailers, unless Apple have their own planes now :-)
Hopefully we see website updates by tomorrow for the telcos and retailers.
With the new iPad Air, Apple gave a pre-order date, but afaik they didn't give a release date. With the iPhone 12, they gave both a pre-order date and a release date (well at least for the Pro models - i didn't pay close attentions to the 12 and the 12 mini)
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
scuwp: Coming in late sorry...but am I right in that there is no charging brick, and the only connector is USB-C...which doesn't fit any existing apple bricks?
Yes you're right, though iPhone users will have a number of existing changers and cables that'll still work on the new devices. And the lightning to usb-c cable might just be sat in the drawer. I don't have any power adapters with usb-c ports, but I do on my laptop and docking station.

Likewise, at some point I stopped caring and whenever I catch it in certain light I'm amazed at how many micro scratches are on the screen
Will probably go for the 12 Pro Max 128gb, work will pay some towards it otherwise I couldn't stomach paying $2k for a phone.

If you've got an apple USB brick, it likely came with a device with a lightning cord. I think the USB C cord is a future proof,-
As an aside the ipads now ship with a 20W USB-C brick... with the same USB-C to lightning cord
(given that new iPhones tend to have a higher RRP that most of the iPad range. iPhone buyers can probably feel justifiably aggrieved)

I got a USB-C charging brick that came with my iPOad and also my MacBook Pro.

Is it sad that I am more excited about the magnetic accessories than the device itself?
But on a more serious note, is the iPhone 12 Mini supposed to replace the SE? Or is the SE still smaller and cheaper?
I too was excited to hear magsafe return... not in the Qi form though.
I don't think the 12mini is replacing the SE. The SE is hitting a sweet spot in the market (and for a lot of companies too, being their new standard).. I still have to use my 8 for another 1-2 years :(
The SE2 is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the iphone mini
I suspect the mini will be quite popular. The original SE phone is a great size as it can be easily used one handed, and the new SE is quite a bit larger, as it is just the old iphone with a home button format. So the 12mii should fill the gap left by the old SE. But still quite pricey
