josephhinvest: (Apple Watch 7) Battery life has been good these last 10 days or so with Always On display turned off.
Optimised charging failed a bit today, I’m back on early shifts, alarm set for 0350, watch had only charged to 80%. Doesn’t seem to be taking my early alarm into account.

Cheers,
Joseph

This is actually a new feature in watch OS10..

"Optimized Charge Limit is an extension of the Optimized Battery Charging feature that waits to fully charge your battery until just before your device expects you to need your Apple Watch, in order to limit battery degradation due to overcharging. Optimized Charge Limit augments this by predicting how much battery life you are likely to need on any given day and only charging up to a level sufficient for your expected needs.

As a result, on some days your Apple Watch may charge all the way to 100%, while on other days it might charge to only 80% or 90%. The feature is optional but on by default, and it only engages in locations where you spend a lot of time such as at home or at work, recognizing that less frequently visited locations are more likely to have unpredictable impacts on your watch usage and charging patterns.

You can also manually override a planned Optimized Charge Limit by tapping the open charging icon after connecting to a charger and selecting the "Charge to Full Now" option."

Good info, thanks
I like the idea of the optimised charging but the predictive stuff seems a bit of a stretch for me as my battery is almost always very low by the end of the day.
Today I’ve put my watch on charge when I’ve arrived home from work.
But frustrating that there’s no middle ground it seems, let the watch predict the charge, or immediately charge to 100% and stay on charge until morning.

Is it just me, or is one of the most underreported updates to iOS the Shortcut automation trigger options?

You can now automatically trigger routines based on things such as Bluetooth connection to devices, locations (without workarounds), messages, and connections to wifi networks, whereas before it would only allow the device to "Suggest" running an automation.

It still won't let you silently run it, but this is a big step forward.. opens up so many more automation opportunities.

As an example, I wanted to track how many times and how long I visited a couple of specific locations, so I can now output that to a csv file, and then track this information over time, without having to deliberately run the automation.
