Can anyone confirm if this is indeed a quad band UMTS device, or is there going to be 850/900 variants?

Yeah it is one phone, possibly using one of the broadcom quad band 3g + wifi n + bluetooth 2.1

Although it could be some Apple designed chip

Bit disappointing on most things tbh, the screen looks gorgeous, but no MicroSD....no changeable battery, only a 5MP camera, 720P recording, multitasking...my Galaxy lite for $390 does more than it and is running Android 2.1

Basically nothing that hasn't been done!

Hope, it's not that cold like July two years ago.

I was waiting outside for 3 hours to get iPhone 3G although it wasn't raining.

I think there will be flood of used iPhone 3G on the Trademe as soon as iPhone 4 available, many iPhone 2 year contract due on July.

I would be 99% sure there is only one Quad Band device. Well done by Apple to achieve this and satisfy the growing number of 900MHz 3G users in Asia-Pac now, and Europe & Sth America in future.

I'd definately buy an iphone if Vodafone wasn't raping us so violently with the pricing - The $80 Plan in Aussie is $199 upfront, our $80 plan is $599 upfront. You can't tell me that the dollar-difference between us and them is that much.

Steve Job's plan was to have AVERAGE CONSUMERS paying $199 upfront, not BUSINESS USERS!

Man I hope Telecom gets iphone this year....  The $80VF plan isn't to bad, it's about the same as Onerate100 + $12text +240MB data from TC.

Speaking of 5MP camera, I just don't get it why put that many pixles on tiny CCD(or CMOS) with tiny lens. Honestly, about 10 year old 4 MP Canon G3 pictures much better than flash new 10 MP phone camera...

I thought Aussie iPhone got locked and we get unlocked phone... big difference when I takes it to oversea and plug 3G repay simcard without hassle.

Also $80VF plan actually offers 3GB data instead of 250MB until sometime, I guess.

One time offers for 3GB data doesn't cut it for me unfortunately - especially when it only applies for 8-10% of the duration of the contract. Locked or not probably makes no difference to the vast majority who are unlikely to swap their sims, so i guess the rebate is incentive for the lock which is incentive to stay on their network. since there's no lock VF just has a $700 0-6mth early exit fee.

Exactly, my Galaxy lite has a 3.1mp camera, no flash, i reckon cut the costs, looking at the 4s camera on the Apple site, there is lots of noise in the pictures. Also the front VGA camera isn't worth it either imo, others might beg to differ

Yeah, it's just one model. It's actually a pentaband chipset (800/850/900/1900/2100) but Apple isn't promoting 800 (it might even be disabled).

The Apple Store sells them unlocked, but the various operators lock them. So it depends where you buy from.

Apparently it actually have 5 bands. The apple site is missing one.  Edit: what the guy above said.

Great, so now when someone asks again the question - what phone works on Telecom & Vodafone, we can now say the Apple iPhone 4.

Surprised by that from Apple, but most likely just to open up more market share! Smart as always. Nice looking phone too. True smartphone contender in just about all categories.
