damn, my idea didn't pan out. :( Stupid Apple.

But all you'd need is a valid US address, by the looks of things.
Your current credit card would obviously work.

I see you can pay via paypal now,
which is good.

Hmmm.  iPad not available in NZ until August and the distinct possibility that if you parallel one in then it may not have access to the iBook market etc ...

Makes me more interested in an Android MID.  Looking again at the Enso Zenpad that I posted about yesterday, they state shipping should take up to 10 days.  The device was aparantly available for order on 20 March, today is 30 March, so some people should have got theirs now and raced to put up some unboxing vids and reviews etc.  But the Internet is empty.  That is discouraging!  As mentioned in my earlier post I wouldn't be interested in purchasing from an unknown like this without some good reviews from reputable sites.

On the plus side the hardware isn't complete vapourware, here is a video of the original-branded version of the device.

On the negative side here is a fascinating flamewar between a talented sleuth and the Enso guys about whether this is a scam.  Entertaining reading and definitely something to give you pause before handing over any cash!

Best regards,
Aaron Davidson.

Hang on that first part hasn't been confirmed yet! I read that somewhere yesterday (NBR?) but it certainly wasn't an official announcement, so at this point it's pure speculation.

It was stated when the iPad was announced that the iBook app would be released worldwide at the end of the year, so yeah there would be a good chance the iPad would release here without the iBook app available yet. However its been confirmed Amazon are developing their Kindle app for the iPad so as long as it's approved we won't be left in complete e-book darkness waiting for the iBook app to arrive.

It'll be interesting. There's already a Kindle app for the iPhone, but then again reading a book on that is a much different experience to the iPad, and it would certainly be competing directly with Apple's iBookstore.

Apple may surprise us all. However, on past form I'd say Amazon has a snowballs chance of its Kindle software making it onto the iPad. I'd love to eat my words however, as Churchill said:

"In the course of my life, I have often had to eat my words, and I must confess that I have always found it a wholesome diet. "

I will probably get mine from Aussie late April early May..
Just hope Vodafone or preferably Telecom is on the ball for the 3G micro sim. Plus decent data plan.

From around the traps:

Any EPub format books can be put on the iPad through iTunes ~ Check new version today :)
Check out Calibri to change eBook formats.

Most Apps can be used on the iPad with doubled pixels, maybe OK for some.

Have the case just need the iPad to put in it.

Funny you mentioned Churchill because I reckon if you shaved your goatee, shoved a cigar in your mouth and a bowler on your head you would be a spitting imageLaughing (Churchill in his younger days of course)

Kindle App. available on iPad already according to Gizmodo.

I find technical books great on the iTouch/PC versions of Kindle App. esp. where you are regularly referring back to various sections. Just the screen a bit small on the iTouch. Lifestyle reading might be a bit slower to catch on but will in time.

So the Kindle app is now live for the iPad!
