Looking at it, it's not a Kindle app just for the iPad, it's their iPhone/iPod Touch app that has been updated to work on the iPad as well.

Still, for those of us who may end up getting an iPad before they are officially released here at least the device can now still be used as a proper e-book reader until the iBookstore is released here as well.

I imagine Amazon would want to remain competitive with Apple with the pricing of the books, so hopefully that'll mean a price reduction in the near future.

LOL!! Don't worry I completely fell for it at the time. The whole day I was conscious of what day it was but I read that and was like "WOW THAT IS AWESOME"! Haha what a loser I am!

Is that the symptom of an Apple fan-boy?! I already own an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone 3GS, iPod Nano, MobileMe subscription... I'm sure I can find a reason to own an iPad too!

Iproducts are rubbish and over priced, they have major flaws, rather then release nice updates they release an entirely new firmware only for their newer products. The software it utterly limiting and featureless. There are soo many better products by other companies for a hell of alot less.

Check back a few pages I said I could go to the US to get one.

Having said that I'm in two minds about whether to go there or wait until they are released in Australia. I could go there and back in the same day so it'd be cheaper, they will also have the 3G versions at launch, but then who knows what the price will be like compared to the US versions or what the supply level will be like.

Decisions, decisions! Let me know if you are keen, makes it easier to convince the wife that the trip is absolutely necessary and the future of Geekzone depends on it.

That's what I'll probably do. To be honest I haven't really even decided if I'm actually going to buy one at all as I have an iPhone 3GS and a 13" Macbook Pro and I'm not entirely convinced that I need anything in between, but I will seriously consider getting an iPad when I travel to Australia for business later this year. I figure that if I reclaim the Australian GST by buying duty free or by using the Tourist Refund Scheme then it might bring the cost down enough to be justifiable.

That said, I would definitely want to get the 3G version and I'm a bit concerned about the whole micro-SIM issue as mentioned by someone earlier in this thread. Obviously this isn't an problem if you're planning to buy the WiFI only version, but for those wanting the 3G version it sounds like the availability of micro-SIMs in New Zealand could be a significant barrier at least in the short term.

Tbh, I'm still quite sold on the other idea from the other thread. Use your iPhone/Mac and then the iPad.

Save a bit of money, that you don't need to spend (unless of course you really want/need the mobile side of things).

Gotta actually agree, I've been reading the reviews and stuff, yeah not my thing

Might wait for the other options, Asus have confirmed two tablest are coming out within the next 2 months, one's a 720P windows beast, the other is an Andriod beast. The HP Slate looks interesting, the Dell mini 5. Will be good to see if they pan out

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

That's good to hear. I just hope that I can get a new SIM issued for my existing data plan which is on a fixed contract for another year. I understand that this would mean that I would have to ditch my existing SIM, but I would use my 3G data connection exclusively with my iPad if I had one.
