From the previous Stuff article:

Telecom spokeswoman Stephanie Fergusson said it was not putting up its handset prices.

Demand for the device had been very strong, and it was no longer selling the iPhone 4S to prepay customers, she said.

"At this time we are prioritising customers who want to go on contract so the iPhone 4S is currently available on a contract only."

Wade: The wife is on XT, $900 subsidy on a 16gb 4s, again I am stoked at the value

How did you get such a subsidy?

My iphone 4S says phone not activated after few seconds of SIM being removed, doesn't happen with Iphone 4 and 3GS, can anyone confirm if this is happening with their iphone 4S too? Is it normal? Once you put the SIM back, signal it connects to the network but sometimes says No Service and you have to manually look for the network! This is happening with 2degrees SIM, don't have any other SIM to try

astroboy: This latest announcement from Vodafone pissed me off as a matter of principle. I've been a customer since the Bell South days, but lately I've felt poorly treated. A few months back, they doubled the minutes on the plan I'm on, but I wasn't entitled to them unless I locked myself in for two years. That's typical of Vodafone, instead of saying "thanks for being a customer for 16 years and you're obviously loyal and unlikely to move, let's reward you," they'd rather bully you.

Honestly, I feel the same.  I've been with them too since BellSouth days, and while I did get in on launch day and get the new phone, I thought it was slightly (actually VERY) ungenerous of them to do that this side of Christmas.  People buy phones for Christmas and it would be great for folk to buy something very cool for their kids of better halves (!) for Christmas.   Had I been Vodafone, I'd have bumped up the price after Christmas as a sign of generosity.

Is it just me, or is Vodafone starting to look slightly arrogant in the way they behave in the mobile market, or am I being ungenerous? :)  They were great to me on launch day, I nearly dipped out on a phone due to a mistake on their behalf, but they secured a handset for me at another store that didn't have such a big demand and I was still able to get my 4S.  But there is just something amiss here somewhere.

I think that would be the $80/m 24m contract plan.

Mine says No Sim Installed when the sim is pulled, but it just reverts back to normal operation once it is  plugged back in - well, it asked for the sim unlock before reverting to normal operation.

This is on a 2degrees sim as well.

My friend did experience the No Sim Installed notice a couple of times on her phone (like others as reported on TUAW), but it disappeared once it was restarted and returned to normal operation.  It hasn't happened again for a while though.

Mine did that too after removing the SIM to check the numbers on the back. I just connected to a WiFi network (it gave me that option) and it re-activated automatically in a couple of seconds.

Edit: this is\was an XT SIM btw, not that I can see it would make a difference. Apparently some are calling it a 4S bug but since it's so easy to fix, and I rarely if ever take the SIM out, I just call it a feature.

PHOTO PROBLEM

Took photos and HD video recently, and a problem. The orientation is all up the whop. I Googled and found this is common. It relates to files viewed on PC, I think on a MAC its ok.

I tested by taking test photos and videos holding the phone in portrait and landscape, and using volume and touch button.

CONCLUSION

All photos and videos are ok if you hold phone in landscape mode, with Home button to the right, using either volume or touch button

All video is ok if you hold phone in portrait mode with Home button to the top, using either volume or touch button

Thus, if you view photos on PC, you cannot take any photos in portrait mode

Photos in portrait show sideways on PC, I gather while the orientation is managed correctly, the EXIF data is not showing these faulty modes, hence they do not display in the correct orientation on a PC

Bit of a pity but photos can be rotated in windows explorer by right clicking image. No need to save, it must write to the exif. Videos I found windows live movie maker ok to fix.
