All that for only $1200? my phone was $390.  I could get an Incredible for $950 or an upcoming Galaxy for $850 which both are more powerful and upgradable than the iPhone 4, but why would I need all that? I just want:
- A few games
- To check emails
- To occasionally watch trademe listings
- To be able to make phone calls with the occassional skype/video call

Best deal ever is pretty much any emailable phone (starts at $99) and get yourself an ipod touch (starts $299). Almost everyone I know has wifi at home and work anyway.

I will be buying the new phone.
Most Lilkly when the apple store is stocking it.
I use the video lots to record my nephews, and the crazy crap we get up to in town etc etc.
I like the new design, I feel I can use the phone without the covers etc. It looks more ruggered like the orginal.
Plus how could you say no to a big battery, faster processor, better display.

I like my 3gs alot but I like new.

The issue with that is the ipod touch doesn't have GPS or a mic for skype.

For me the iPhone is so much more than phone and email, it's GPS navigation, it's Runkeeper, It's checking the news in the morning while my kids are watching Disney, Catching up on the news with the TVNZ app, updating facebook, oh and it's a music player too.

It's expensive but I think it's a great device

Then why did you compare it in first place?  If you are happy with your Lemon, thats great, but its pointless comparing it with an Apple or an Orange.

No GPS but it does have a mic if you buy the headphones with one. Records amazingly well, too! I tried it out with my guitar one day.

But you can't beat having all that ipod touch goodness AND a phone so I'll be upgrading from my touch. :)

Looks decent, nothing amazing. I can see the Apple fans upgrading, but unlike when the iPhone first launched we find ourselves with options left right and centre nowadays.

I'll stick with Android myself, when I upgrade I'll stick with HTC or maybe a to-be-released Sony Ericsson. I think more and more people will switch to Android over the coming years.

Its a bit of a shame Vodafone are not carrying any HTC devices at the moment, or is that not a vodafone choice?

Think the iPhone 4 relates more to Samsung mobiles than iPhone 3GS to tbh, I'd take a 3GS, but I still think the 4 as it stands is overrated, happy with my iPod touch and my phone for now

So I guess by that reasoning, the iPhone 3gs is an Apple, the 4 is a lemon?

http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/06/08/iphone-4-ipad-and-samsung-wave-apparently-share-the-same-cpu-core/

Guess we'll have to see which one makes the better lemonade on the day

PaulBrislen: Vodafone will launch iPhone 4, the thinnest smartphone in the world with the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, in New Zealand in the coming months.

Information on pricing and tariff plans will be made available as soon as possible.

Cheers

Paul

Looks like Apple instructed telco's to use the same standard wording as above (refer link http://www.neowin.net/news/canadian-big-3-confirm-iphone-4-for-july)

Interesting how the Canadian telco's have said "in the coming weeks", yet with NZ also on Apple's July 2010 slide, Vodafone have said "in the coming months".

I guess that weeks implies a lot sooner than months, but that's just my observation...

No NZ release date yet

The fourth generation iPhone will be released in the US, Japan, France, Germany and the UK, on June 24, and be available in 18 more countries in July, Mr Jobs said, then a further 40 countries from September.

This morning, Vodafone New Zealand - Apple’s only official carrier in NZ - could not offer a release date, with a spokesman offering only that the company will release iPhone 4 at some time "in the coming months".

I was hoping it will be closer to $1200-1300.

Have to see how much it is on a plan, other option is the apple australia store then reclaim gst.

The parallel importers are always more expensive, I have no doubt it'll be the same price as the 3GS was before the price drop earlier this week.

I spoke to a girl from aussie last week who bought a 3GS iphone on a plan over there, $79/mth and 0$ upfront! No idea how Vodafone can justify their NZ pricing...

http://store.vodafone.com.au/mobile-phones.aspx?caps=79.0000&Brand=Apple® iPhone™

Includes:
Unlimited Vodafone to Vodafone standard national voice calls within Australia all day, every day
Unlimited standard national and international TXT & PXT®
1GB3 of data for mobile internet

That's a great deal, if that deal was available here I'd grab one now.

I think it's safe to say every 3rd person would have grabbed one if VFNZ had offered us that rate! The total cost of ownership is around the same as the iPhone40 plan they offer here but you're getting much better value in the Aussie plans.

The prepay price over there is pretty much the same as here so it's all in the subsidy.
