Only problem I can see in getting overseas is this:
"- The iPad must be connected to iTunes in order to set it up. Out of the box, it shows a connect to iTunes screen (you must have iTunes 9.1)."

I assume that won't be a problem??

I think I'm going to wait for the Aussie launch, but hopefully by then we'll know when the iPad will be in NZ anyway!

iPads will be in NZ on Wednesday for review of how easy or not the activation process is. iTunes can be downloaded for free and will run on most PCs/Macs.

From what I've read, it only needs to be connected to iTunes to be set up on the main computer.

I would assume its the same as an iPod touch, is it not?

Yeah that's a good point.

They're good for adding little things like that.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure he (Steve Jobs) said during the WWDC conference that it wouldn't need activation, as it is unlocked.

Yes, that is the assumption for the WiFi-only units, but since iTunes sometimes reacts poorly to non-US account addresses it is good to confirm before purchase.

Activation via iTunes won't be an issue, but using the App Store on the device itself will be:

So in the meantime you either create a US iTunes account, or just sync with your Mac/PC each time (probably the easiest).

For NZ users, hopefully this issue will sort itself once the device is released to those select countries at the end of the month, otherwise it could be a very long wait before we can use the device as intended!

Most of the time I load my apps through iTunes anyway, so it wouldn't be too much of a problem for me, other than the initial days of having the iPad (obviously it's a new toy, you don't wanna stick at the computer) haha.

Think I'll be selling my relatively new Kindle DX and getting a Wifi only 16GB Ipad, since I can tether it using MyWi on iphone I don't see a need for the 3G version for me. Now to find out how I can get one shipped, may look into those international freight forwarders.

I think Mauricio should offer a prize to the first person who posts photos here of them trimming up their own micro-SIM!

Seriously, though, you're probably not supposed to do this because it's my understanding that your SIM is technically the property of your service provider (assuming that they state this in their terms of service). Then again, I can't imagine there being any consequences other than paying for the cost of a replacement.

but yeah, they are property of your service provider, but I've never heard of them doing anything about people chopping up their sims etc.

I had to do it for the 1stgen iphone. I'm still using that same SIM card now.
