Dial111:

After a night to let it sink in I think common sense has kicked it and I wont be upgrading at all.

I think Apple has priced me out considering there is nothing new that warrants the dollar difference from my 7 plus to the XS Max

Going off the recent trend I think Apple products will continue to rise in price until the market says otherwise which means this could well be my last iPhone. Unfortunate as I prefer iOS over Android.

I hope more people make the same decision.

As I stated in my above post, even purchasing an XR (which in fairness is probably a very nice upgrade from the 7 Plus) is still showing an acceptance of Apples high prices.

Disclaimer: I contributed to the problem last year by getting an X.

Im in the same boat, was debating about the upgrade this year from my 7+ 128 to a 256 model the price just kills it for me. Frankly it is obscene the $$ apple are asking. Ill be sticking with my 7+ for a while yet.
Options are keep an eye out for a X or similar on discount or switch to android (loking increasingly likely despite the fact ios is the ecosystem i like).

Its silly really as i have the series 2 watch and was looking at the upgrade to s4 this year as well. However given im not shelling out for the new phone i donr see much point in uprading the iwatch either, and instead look to some of the other offerings.

I’m hoping they sell poorly to bring apple back down to earth.

You could look at getting an X off Trademe (or someone here), as there will no doubt be those who will upgrade to the XS Max for the larger screen. I see this as a way to upgrade without supporting the price points of the current line up.

JEDENZED: Can anyone clarify the ECG functionality of the series 4 watch? In The keynote, they seemed to infer that it would be available first in the US and then in other markets. Will it be a software patch? Will it be available on both the gps and the LTE models?

yeah I wouldn't min some clarification on that subject . I got the impression it was across the board and was a software update could have something to do with FDA approval thingy?

If it gets FDA approved does that mean that us heart at risk folk will be able to get it on prescription??? That would be cool if you lot would pay for my new Apple watch!! ...I'm kidding shesh!! .... well sort of kidding

By way of comparison, the Huawei P20 Pro is the same size as the XR, but sports triple rear cameras (which have been getting top reviews) and a much higher resolution screen which is OLED to boot. And the P20 Pro can be purchased for around $400 less than the XR.

My wife has a 7+ and could find no compelling reason to upgrade. She nearly choked on her dinner when I told her how much the most expensive one is...!

TL:DR - can anyone tell me if the dual sim will be supported by NZ carriers and if so, will that lead to more dual sim models coming in from other makers...

I'd vaguely considered returning to Apple, simply because I have an iPad and an iMac for everything else.

However, I am sticking with Android. Apple's hardware just isn't that much better, if it's better at all.

Best scenario for customers would be blank handsets that can run either iOS or Android as per the customer's wishes, but I don't suppose we will ever see that!

I just lol'd at the following on the apple site.

So the XR is 6.1 screen but in small print it says

"The iPhone XR display has rounded corners. When measured as a rectangle, the screen is 6.06 inches diagonally. Actual viewable area is less."

So they say it's 6.1 but really its 6.06 but viewable area is less than that.

Guys maybe we should apply "apples rounding rules" to all measurements. ;)

I have an X, 2k. If the next one is more, so be it, but I cannot be bothered, its just a phone. I've gone from every phone to whenever I can be bothered. I cannot even tell you what the phones are or have. I also dont upgrade my house, car, bike, furniture, whiteware every year either. Id arguably get a better upgrade on any of those items over a new phone

Don't want to hi-jack the thread but if people are buying the new Iphones for the camera alone, and the person is a real photo enthusiast, buying a Canon or Nikon DSLR for under $1000 might be a more satisfying way to go.

Not exactly a point and shoot, and phone cameras are almost always going to be a compromise.. A phone is more portable and usually in your pocket. You have to plan to use a DSLR

I've been thinking about this over last night and today and I'm not sure I will be going ahead with my purchase of the XS Max. I was thinking about the 128 if it existed (so instead the 256) for 2,400.

I'm not sure I can bring myself to part with 2.4k. That would buy me a specced up Macbook Air, or Macbook, maybe even a MBP.

Will be holding onto my 7 a while longer, which is a real shame, because I was looking forwarding to an upgrade (bigger screen mainly) this year.

May even keep more of an eye on the Android market this year, given Apple's line up for 2018.

EDIT: maybe I'll feel more inclined to buy when I hold one in hand, but right now, I don't feel compelled to.

$2400 is ridiculous for a phone. I think they have priced the XS max out of the market.

I was hoping to get a new phone this year. I keep them for a long time. My iPhone 6 is four years old, and I had the iPhone 4 for four years before that. I expect whichever one I get is something I'll have for a similar time. I don't want a large phone, so might choose the XS over the XR for that reason, but I'm still deciding. I got the 10'5" iPad last year, finally replacing my iPad 3 which I used for 5 years. I use it every day, so the larger phone is less useful to me while I have access to the larger screen. I got the series 3 watch last year, so a new watch isn't a temptation.
