Have you added up the all up cost of VFNZ iphone plans?

iphone 60 = $2289
iphone 80 = $2719
iphone 130 = $3719

and i think it's fair to say none of them offer anywhere near the same value as the VFAU plans? Even the iphone 130 with double the all-up cost still has only half the data of AU's $79.95 plan (which has a 0$ upfront) - and please don't give me that 3GB promotion rubbish...

The iphone 40 is probably the best deal in NZ but it's only marginally cheaper than buying outright, and if you're doing that you may as well go TC or 2degrees and avoid VF's compulsory 12mth term.

I think the australian plan is most similar to the $250 NZ plan
So total cost: Australian plan = $2340NZ 'vs' New Zealand plan = $6299

If you compare the two cheapest plans including the phone purchase price
Australia ($79AUD) plan = $97.50NZD / month
Vodafone ($40) plan = $77.50 / month

So your paying an extra $20, but you are getting about 10x more value

TBH ever since the 3G came out VF have been royally screwing the NZ consumer compared to overseas providers(even compared to themselves in overseas-guise).

Im not sure why this is but im getting bloody sick of it.

Ill be sourcing the iPhone 4 from either hong kong or Aussie and paying a contract break fee the next time im there and put the phone on a standard contract on vodafone...or if they try to play hard ball-Telecom.

Surely the iPhone brings enough revenue in via the amount of (ridiculously priced)data it gets consumers using. Why stomp on your customers' wallets even further with this ridiculous pricing?

The force is strong with this one!

Vodafone is a business.
Where there in a dollar to be made, a dollar will be made.

That however does not mean that I agree with their expensive pricing.

Simple - Ditch them. Get yourself an iphone4 from apple.co.nz and putting it on XT.

Pretty similar on XT - I got a double up deal when i joined so I get 100mins instead of 50 on onerate 50. On top of that I get 240MB for $18 and text2500 so all up $60 for 100mins, 120MB and 2500 anyone texts.

To be honest I never use anywhere near the minutes or data i'm given.

Exactly. Stop crying over a luxury device. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere then go for it. You think VNFZ arent aware of their price point?

Because the money's being made primarily in the services that iPhone (although not exclusively) enables and encourages consumers to use.

The barriers of entry for mobile networks are probably a step too far for PI...

i think at the end of the day we can all bitch about iphone + vodafone in nz and how ripoff they are compared to the rest of the world but we still have to deal with it :( its amazing what monopoly does ae....

iphone 40 fits me fine at the moment in my life and for that i am content haha...

heavenlywild: Sorry to be the party-pooper but I am not all that excited about the new iPhone.

Currently owning the iPhone 3GS, the better main camera, front facing camera and multi-tasking abilities on the new iPhone don't really seem it's worth upgrading to. Sure, if you don't have an iPhone at present, it's a great device but not sure if you come from a 3GS.

The front-facing camera is useful but only to a small segment of the market. The world quickly found out that people don't enjoy 3G video calls as much as technology world expected.

Yeah I have to agree with the first sentence (in particular). My iPhone 3g is a fun and useful device. But Android OS looks more interesting to me currently (than any of the iOS options). I think I'll be changing to an HTC Desire shortly (or something better?). I think most devices have tradeoffs, Apple have theirs, Android devices have theirs.. and different tradeoffs will matter more or less to different people.
