TL:DR - can anyone tell me if the dual sim will be supported by NZ carriers and if so, will that lead to more dual sim models coming in from other makers...

A quick look at the twitter comments from the 3 main telcos, all saying no but not ruling it out in the future.

$2400 is ridiculous for a phone. I think they have priced the XS max out of the market.

It doesn't really make sense that it is priced so high, considering how much it can't do. If it could be plugged into a monitor, and used as a computer like some android phones can be, . But iOS is very limiting. I guess if they move away from the lightning connector, then that could be a possibility in the future

I'm so conflicted. On the one hand, my iPhone 6s Plus is still working fine (although the battery doesn't last very long) but then you got that outrageous pricing of the new models.

I CAN afford it. I just don't know if I can justify it. To think that pricing will continue to increase makes me hesitant on what my next phone will be. I love having the latest tech but for $2000+ ...

The reduced price battery replacement program runs until December so you can still get yours replaced for $59. My screen has a hairline crack, which summarily requires that the screen be replaced in order to also replace the battery. Due in partvto a previous discussion I’d had with Apple around the crack on my screen being deemed a manufacturing defect, successfully argued this point with Apple over the phone and got a “one-time exception” applied which got me both battery and screen replaced it no charge.

I got a new battery in my iphone6 for $59, hoping to get another 4 years out of it.
It’s running real good now.
You can buy a nice computer for what they want for phones now, and even the iPad Pro is cheaper.

I’ll look at options when phone dies next, I’ll consider android, or buying older model iPhone to what either is current. I hope the notch is gone then, cause when I see videos playing in Landscape mode, all I can see is the notch blocking some of the picture. The galaxy nine doesn’t have a notch.

I've got an iPhone X now (64gig), keen to go to a bigger screen but I'm trying to see what other innovation there is to help me justify an upgrade. The Keynote seemed to concentrate on a better Camera and CPU, that was about it.

Apple of course did their best to sell it, but watch some of the reviews on Youtube and there really isn't a lot to it.

I'm looking to buy an iPhone XS while I'm out of country (Canada), as it works out much cheaper.

The only issue is, I see the Canada model lacks LTE band 28 which appears to be in use by Spark and Vodafone. Is this a major issue?

2degrees use Band 28 also. The phone would work on 3G ok in NZ but you will find 4G coverage more limited to metro areas.

If you have a look at https://gis.geek.nz it will have a map of all NZ towers and you can see which frequencies are used at each site to give you an idea.

Managed to get my XS Max order in but the 2degrees online store wouldn't let me update my delivery address to my work address (when I tried, it said "Something's not working as it should", so I just went ahead with the existing home address).

@2degreesCare , will I be able to update the delivery address before next Friday?
