hey guys,
i just came back from europe after 4 months and i havent been following the updates that have been released.

I am currently quckpwned with 2.1 and i wish to upgrade to the latest version.

I need some help with this....

Is it ok to use the already jailbroken backup from itunes for the upgrade, or do i need to quickpwn from scratch to the latest version?? i am asking this because i actually want to keep all my contacts and sms msgs from europe.

Also are there any other issues that i should be aware off? i have been so out of touch with the winpwn and quickpwn updates that i have no idea of the possible issues....

Lastly,  is the procedure the same as before, restore the phone to factory settings in itunes after creating a itunes backup, then apply quickpwn, and then restore from backup again in itunes??

Thanks for the help guys,,

Dan

Hi - I'm pretty sure your outline of the procedure is correct, as far as the process goes - but I don't think you actually have to restore to factory settings at all. The backup that iTunes makes won't take any notice of the Jailbreak side of your iPhone, so will restore all your contacts/SMS etc after you update to the latest firmware. If you make a separate backup with 'Aptbackup' from Cydia, once you have Jailbroken again you can download the same app again & ask it to do a restore & it should download all your previous apps again from Cydia (it just keeps a list of what you had, it doesn't actually backup the apps themselves).
One issue to look out for is if you're JB'ing with a Mac on OS 10.5.6 - there are some problems with getting into DFU mode (but these may not be an issue for a previously JB'd device...?) - Gizmodo just did a thorough post on this... I hope it's OK to post a link, and that it works OK    http://i.gizmodo.com/5166029/how-to-install-unofficial-apps-on-your-iphone-3g-or-ipod-touch-easily-and-safely

Jailbroken to 2.2.1 ,
everything went smoothly with quickpwn and phone is still unlocked :D

I backed up all my sms, contacts, call history , favorites etc using ssh so i did a clean install of the phone without using a backup just in case. If anyone needs to know how to backup all these things through ssh heres a link
