I can't download it until later on today after work, but any indication yet if it fixes the issue where you have to enter +6427... and 027... in your contacts for the person's name to show up when they call and text?

And it looks to work perfectly on XT, no need to reapply the carrier bundle.

John - do you know whether or not it resolves the 3G issue on 2100MHz?

It appears 3.1 might break tethering on XT and 2 Degrees,

Just did a Speedtest (using the iPhone app) on a 3GS running 3.1 on the VF netowrk in Auckland CBD, managed 1601kbps down and 314kbps up, not a rocket ship, but I guess this is probably peak time of the data network.

Yes.. 3.1 doesn't allow tethering on non vodafone simcards. This has been done on purpose via Apple due to people using the "hack" to enable tethering on AT&T and other carriers.

So iPhones going to 3.1 are not fully carrier unlocked and you will loose fucntionality of tethering if you are not on Vodafone.

Apple introduced a new option to ipcc/mobilecombile files which is a signature (crypto type string) which they make up which is only in the official carrier files (and there is no way to make valid ones up)

I guess if people want to complain but I don't think this will be resolved for quite a while (without a jailbreak on the phone, but no one has worked out a way to do it yet (I have been working on it but got no where)
Thanks

There are battery life issues?? I'm getting good life out of my 3GS and my 3G (now with girlfriend).

Struggling to download 3.1 though. Got 76MB of 306MB already yet still have another 2 hours remaining it would appear. PAINFULLY slow...

No it wasn't as you can't automatically go to the internet without changing the APN on firmware 2.2.1.And remember when the iphone first sold in New Zealand, there was some topic about how to get the internet work on prepay
