myopinion: We'll I've got something interesting to report regarding the draining battery. I tried my Vodafone micro SIM (real not cut) last night and there was virtually no battery drain at all - around 1%.
The XT SIM I have was cut from a normal SIM by Telecom. I'm wondering if that caused some damage to the SIM which means it keeps dropping in and out of signal causing the battery drain. I dont have a "real" XT micro SIM to confirm but I'm testing another cut XT SIM today and will let you know how that goes.

It will not be related to SIM if the SIM was damaged it would not work full stop

Based on that logic it means that the XT network is causing the battery drain, which is even more unlikely as other useres are not experiencing the same problem. The area I'm using it in has very good reception on both the XT and Vodafone network. We'll see how the other SIM goes.

When you're on Voda does it show 3G?
myopinion: Was just looking around the internet and seems that there are a few other people with battery drain issues that may have been caused by cut SIMS.
