A Cat6 cable slipped out my hands this evening and has fallen down a wall cavity... It is on a job and I cannot use another cable or split another one as it is carrying rs232 signal not data...

I have to solve this this weekend, this job has dragged on and I don't want the client to even be aware of this problem.

I need someone who has a snake camera / fibre optic camera that you use for looking down cavities and inspecting pipes. Failing that a could also use a lipstick camera and tape it onto a long cable and run it to a monitor.

I am desperate and will pay in cash.

Any direct enquiries call me on 0220235611

Any suggestions of third parties I can try contact please reply and I will chase them up and be very grateful!

This is what happens when you decide to rush a bit extra work in the 5mins you have left instead of being satisfied with the day's output!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrr I am dumb sometimes!

Tried sourcing pencil/lipstick camera from rocket rentals and nz camera hire. Rocket's one is in wellington and I have not heard back from nz camera hire yet.

Just an FYI in case anybody was going to suggest them as an option.

No idea if it would be at all suitable (or long enough) or how much you want to spend but I saw this in the latest SCA mailer:

That is quite helpful actually. I can always sell it afterwards if needed I guess. 1m might not be long enough though. They also have them at jaycar too I notice.

Don't own one sorry, but I've used one of these in the past. Has LEDs on the end for some light - picture quality is average, but certainly good enough for poking down a wall.

Worth a shot if you can pick it up quickly perhaps?

EDIT: Same thing at Jaycar, easier to get....

Jaycar also has a USB mini inspection camera (2m and 7m cable length). Just add a laptop.

What about calling the sewer guys. Not sure how clean their cams considering where they've been, but they do call outs and their cams go a long way...

Hi the good thing about the USB ones is the long cable. Quite a lot harder to look at a laptop screen and move the camera around if you are doing it by yourself, though.

I can afford all these options, it is the same amount as I was willing to pay for someone to come and help me and at least I can either keep it and claim it against my tax or sell it and get some money back.

Thanks so much for the links guys... It is a massive help!

So there you go, interested parties... If you want to take some money from me you have until tomorrow morning when I drive into jaycar and I spend the money there instead.

Really? I can't see the extension on the website?

I can't find them either - their website is a bit crap to be honest.

Put it this way - I had my grubby mitts on one last year when I was pining over wanting to buy one of the wireless recording ones... If your branch has the cameras, then it's possible they'll have an extension or two as well.

edit: Oh, I found it

edit2: If you really don't have a use for it afterwards, I'd be happy to take it off your hands as a finders fee! (j/k... sorta)

When you say the sewer guys who do you mean exactly? Or do you mean call up a drainage company?

Probably easier to buy one of these inspection cameras from jaycar and then if client 'drops by' I don't have to explain the hoary drainage guy in his house ;-)

Yeah I mean the drainage/plumber types. After the Chch quakes we had damaged drains and one company came out with a big spooled cam on a sackbarrow, went a long way. I presume they would help, or maybe there are health and safety rules around their use, considering the places they go to. But these guys do callouts during weekends so maybe a last resort backup when all else fails.
