VDSL Up!  Synced straight up & logged in and the Fritz told me I had Internet connectivity, but it was no go for actual traffic.  Rang snap! and they found my account hadn't been activated yet for some reason, 30 seconds later and a fritz reboot and it's all go! :D

That's some pretty good International speeds for peak times!

Max download speed (HTTP) from Microsoft (I'm guessing a local Akamai cache) tops out at around 2800k/sec (consistent speed), upload to an overseas FTP server is around 650k/sec.  However, it's still peak usage time ATM, so will try later too.

Fritzbox Stats:
Max. DSLAM throughput - kbit/s  70000  10360
Min. DSLAM throughput - kbit/s  360  360
Attainable throughput - kbit/s  32760  1096
Current throughput - kbit/s  32760  10352

Latency - 8 ms  8 ms
Bitswap - off  off
Impulse Noise Protection - 2.0  2.0

Signal-to-noise ratio dB - 12  14
Line attenuation dB - 10 -
Carrier record - A43  A43
Profile 8b

I'm also getting a HEAP of Remediable Errors (FEC) & Not Remediable Errors (CRC), but apparently this is to be expected when the auto line tuning is on.  The latency seems a bit high as well, but hopefully that will drop once the line tuning is complete.

Can anyone tell me why the attenuation changes so much between ADSL & VDSL?  On ADSL I had 3db downstream attenuation, on VDSL it's 10!

It should not change attenuation that much unless your adsl modem was reporting it incorrectly.

To give you an idea, ADSL2+ i had 3dB and VDSL i had 4-5dB. The increase is due to the higher frequency's VDSL uses.

Try not to reboot your modem for the next few weeks while DLM adjusts your line.

You able to post up a screenshot of your Spectrum tab from the Fritzbox?

So if mine is due on the 29th should I run downstairs at 00:01 and swap routers over or do chorus only action these changes during business hours?

Hmm, well my Thomson ADSL2 router said attenuation was 7db, my fritz on ADSL2 said 3, and the fritz on VDSL says 10... dunno what's going on there!?

Apparently DLM is only on for 10 days, can anyone confirm this?

Here's the spectrum tab:

As far as I understand, the swap will be done at some stage during the day and would be active immediately.

ah well, I will plug the fritz in when I go to sleep since all the otherstuff is coming in on the slingshot connection and see if it comes up during the day.

One thing I just remembered, I have a 10m phone extension lead between the wall socket and the fritz. That's not likely to be causing an issue is it? It was brand new when I put it in 3 years or so ago and it certainly looks fine. It's a bit of a moot point anyway (unless replacing it will help) as I can't really move the router :)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yea that is strange. Fritzbox is usually pretty good with reporting attenuation.

Spectrum looks about right even though it has taken a missive hit in the ADSL2+ range.

I know if you telnet into the Fritzbox you can pull more detailed info.

Here is my attenuation for each downstream band.

DLM on my connection makes it's changes between 04:00 and 04:15 normally.

I would recommend very very strongly do not turn off the device for the first 10 days or so while DLM is doing it's thing.
It will normally start the line of with slower speeds to make sure it's stable then notch it up to make sure it's staying stable.

Attenuation is always higher on VDSL due to the technology / rates it's no big deal.
Also I've always had heaps of FEC errors on no matter what kind of modem I'm using along with other connections I've seen and or worked on so I assume it's either a bad report or a VDSL thing.

My Thomson has been up around 24-30 hours and it's already reporting this for the FEC but never effects service.
EC Errors (Up/Down):10.743 / 85.051.359

You able to test it temporary with a shorter cable?

Is dialing a code into a phone attached to fritz the only way to enable telnet?

Could the DLM be affecting attenuation?

:O Yes remove this ASAP it will be causing big issues. Might as well run cat5 untwisted and all over the floor and you'd have the same level of quality.

Yeah, could do.  Is disconnecting going to affect my DLM tuning adversely?

It will be effecting it more by running it on that cable, It will tune to that thinking that you've got shoddy wiring and you'll be buggered.

Let's put this in perspective tho, the signal is running over an unshielded, untwisted copper pair for 5-600m before it gets to my house, surely another 10m isn't going to make any real difference?
