2D marketing e-mailed today asking to upgrade my plan to the 12gb endless data option, I'm currently on 10gb rollover with 2 shares for $105 a month, the new plan would be an extra $15 a month (shares have gone up to $30/month).

Still thinking I'll stay put since the plan is identical to Vodafone, won't consider Spark as their first plan that offers sharing is $100/month

makes me roll my eyes when I see any mobile company saying endless data. It's never usable data when you hit the limit so what's the point.

Actually I found Vodafone’s endless data to be more than useable. Was still great for streaming Netflix and my day to day usage, even using a laptop via personal hotspot.

I’ll admit Spark’s is a bit woeful (struggling with Twitter - really, Spark?) and I haven’t tried 2degrees.

@cwd I do not agree a good friend of mine is on the 4GB unlimited plan and he is very pleased the way it performs when he reaches the 4GB cap! YouTube and basic streaming is still easily achieved

interesting replies, cause 1.2mbps is not that great especially for netflix :P but good to hear it works maybe there is no limit on local streaming services since they might be cached wonder if a speedtest would reveal anything from fast.com vs speedtest.net once reached limit.

You should be able to stream SD video without too much trouble on 1.2mbps. Its certainly been my experience across Spark, 2 Degrees and Vodafone.

Having tested fast.com while on Vodafone’s endless data, it starts off faster than 1.2mbps for a second or two and then drops back to the advertised speed pretty much exactly.

Check out Herald headline 16th Jan 2019 '2degrees appoints ex-Vodafone man Mark Aue as new boss'.

After reading this, I commented to my wife that I hoped 2° didn't start copying Vodafone with their 28 day prepays, and moving customers over to this plan without notification. I moved from Vodafone after being with them for over 20years.

Seems 2° have been corrupted by the weasel in the hen house.

Crap.  I just changed my plan and now I can't share data with my tablet anymore.

They didn't tell me this when I "upgraded" my plan, which in some-ways is now a downgrade for me.

If it wasn’t clear that you’d lose your sharing capability, I suggest lodging a formal complaint with 2 Degrees for not making that clear.

It is in the terms & conditions

Terms and conditions or not, if it isn’t immediately clear a customer is going to lose an important feature of their plan and isn’t disclosed to them at the time of the plan change blatantly without any way of going back you would be annoyed also.

It’s like not disclosing to a customer that their credit card has more interest if you do a cash advance at the time they take out a cash advance - you can’t simply say “it’s in the terms and conditions”.

Seriously - formal complaint this and if you don’t get the desired outcome then take it to the telecommunications dispute tribunal.

There also isn’t a 4gb endless plan. This is a carryover plan. I’ve experienced via a friend what happens when you go over your cap and it is actually rather slow. It is OK for the basic things, but it isn’t by any means unlimited. These plans are still a substantial downgrade from their previous plans and I’m still salty about it.

10 pages and we really have not found a solution for the customers who lost based on gotchya’s and poorly written marketing.

Wish 2degrees would back pedal but suppose you can’t win them all.

As I’ve said before it’s a real shame the innovation ended here.

Nothing’s fair about this.

Bring this one back, this very nearly just caught me out. I'm on an older $55 plan with carryover and sharing data with five devices. I don't want to lose the data sharing, and would like to keep the carryover as well (100+gb).

I do want to get a new handset, and would like to do the monthly repayments thing. But I've been told in store that to do that I need to change plan to a "current" plan - I can't stay on my $55/month plan. So if I understand correctly (or the salesperson is correct, but they didn't inspire confidence) my only real option if I want to keep "free" sharing of data with other devices is to move to the $40/month plan. Assuming its the same as my current one, I keep my existing carryover data and sharing settings with 5 devices - but have a lower monthly incoming data quota.

However, delving around the 2Degrees website I see wording like below, which suggests I might not be able to share it with prepay sims (with very little credit on)?

Can I dish out Carryover data to friends and family?

Yes! Share it with the data guzzling kids or mates who need to book a ride home if they have a 2degrees Carryover Plan.

But then elsewhere it doesn't stipulate "they must be on a carryover plan".

Who can I share data with?

You can share all or a chunk of your NZ data with up to 5 people who are also on 2degrees.
