My mum asked me today why when I call your sister I can hardly hear her! One sister is on Vodafone and my other sister is on 2degrees

So I asked which sister and it is the one on Vodafone

@morganbrowne Please any updates on the voice quality issue or even an update about VoLTE going live in Auckland?

I had someone leave a voicemail today and I couldn’t understand 95% of what they said.

I did notice things were especially bad today. I'm not exaggerating either - there were a number of times I had to call people back off my Spark number as the quality was shockingly bad on the 2degrees sim.

Calling on-net is totally fine still.

Is there varying levels of poor quality? If thats the cause, it suggests encoding or capacity rather than just old handovers (as those will be same level of quality).

Hiya,

Our team continue to test and make improvements here. A few changes have been made so far. Our core network team will review recent implemented changes and continue to look at this. I know this is vague but as mentioned, this is an ongoing test and learn exercise. It may not be a quick fix. As mentioned also, when we know more, I will update you.

Cheers

Maybe that is why they are offering half price plans for 3 months on a a selective plan :P. I cannot understand why a major telco would allow this call degradation to continue for so long. Its all very well saying Volte is coming....but it could be a while before all of NZ gets it. I have been so disappointed in 2 degrees performance lately.

Don't expect to see VoLTE in Auckland anytime soon with the complaints looks like moving family / friends back to Spark or Vodafone this is really disappointing! 😞

Afraid not, my 2D connection still is crap between Spark/Vodafone, however, Spark/Vodafone calls seem to be now HD.

A few of my family have switched to Spark/Vodafone as they just can't hear each other.

This is a real shame, as I really like supporting the "disruptor" of the duopoly.

They must be seeing churn from customers who frequently call Vodafone/Spark customers. however, I have another set of friends who all are on 2D and are quite happy for the "odd" bad call when they call the other networks.

2degrees to SparkNZ and VodafoneNZ are HD calling when in VoLTE locations!

They are very clear for sure! I'm hoping things improve before moving family 2degrees connections to another provider

Good Point John, they are VoLTE calls between Spark/Vodafone. it's a shame 2D just didn't enable VoLTE nationwide earlier, then this topic wouldn't have been started.

I don’t think it’s a pure VoLTE thing. 3G calls between Vodafone and Spark sound materially better than 2D VoWifi/3G to Vodafone or Spark.

You are correct the 3G to 3G calls cross net should sound much better

I’m surprised that they don’t route the VoWifi via the same path as VoLTE.
