I am currently on 2degree fibre (transferred from snap) 100/20 plan including voip phone $95.95 per month

I'm on that pre-2degrees Snap plan too. As it was a 24 month contract with 12 months remaining, I was told that I would need to pay a $299 early termination fee to cancel that contract and sign up to this one. Along with another +$15/mo on top for home phone, I think I'll give this new 24 month contract a pass.

Don't you mean plans are reduced to $49 and $85 with the $10 discount?

Argh! Yes! Just amended it.

Thanks!

[...]people I know seem to rave about Lightbox.

You don't have to take their word for it. Go to Lightbox and sign up and you get a 30 day free trial.

Just started on the trial myself and I think I will be keeping Lightbox (using the Apple TV4 app).

Neon isn't worth it. Overpriced and a whole bunch of movies and TV shows (except Game of Thrones) you've seen before, all in SD. Nah, I'd skip it.

This is the response I got from submitting a query on their website, asking how it'll work with an existing contract:

Thank you for your email.

After having a look into the account I can see that you have successfully completed 12 months of your contract. In order to sign you up on the new plan we will have to cancel this existing contract and sign you up on a new one. This means that there will be early termination fee. Because you have completed 12 months of your contract so your early termination fee would be $299 to cancel the remaining period of the contract.

Signing you up on a new contract will have new sign up and new start date for your 24 months term.

I hope this information was helpful. If you need anymore information please call us back on 0800 022 022.

I'd be very surprised if they charged a break fee for switching to a new 24 mo. contract. Try ringing them up if you really want to switch to it. :)

I swear last week they had a different promo: 3 months free on a 12 month contract.

Actually I think that was a much better deal. I would be pretty keen to switch over to that... maybe I should give them a call tomorrow. If only they answered the phone within the 20 minutes I can bear to stay on hold for...

I don't understand the appeal here (if you aren't on a 2degrees mobile plan.)

If you're willing to sign a 24 month contract, you may as well sign one with Voyager: their plan is $69/mth for the whole 24 months. In other words, it's $192 cheaper. Or $310.80 if you wanted the 200/20 option (Voyager charge $20, 2degrees charge $24.95.)

Even if you plan to leave after 12 months and take the $249 hit, it's still not a great deal. It's still $9 more than Voyager (12mth contract), or $138 more than Bigpipe if you already have UFB (specifics below). And, once again, that saving increases $59.4 for 200/20.

Sticking it out for the whole two years:
2degrees: $59 for 12 mths, $95 for 12 mths = $1848 ($77/mth)
Voyager: $69 for 24 mths = $1656 ($69/mth, obviously)

Abandoning ship after one year:
2degrees: $59 for 12 mths, $249 disconnection fee = $957 ($79.75/mth)
Voyager: $79 for 12 mths, no disconnection fee = $948 ($79/mth)
Bigpipe: $79 for 10 mths (2 free with UFBSWITCH), $49 connection fee, and a $20 credit for signing up with someone's referral link) = $819 ($68.25/mth)

Prices are for 100/20 UFB (and VDSL for 2degrees/Voyager.) Add $299.4/yr (2degrees) or $240/yr (Voyager/Bigpipe) for 200/20 UFB.

Yeah, I think that Spark has a clear advantage here with being able to throw in Lightbox as part of their deal, but if 2degrees is cheaper for 12 months (then more costly) and Lightbox is worth $13 per month maybe it evens out?

I agree if the Neon subscription was better quality, and didn't die after 6 months, then 2degrees would have an offer to compete really well with Spark, and you can bet that they are working on something like that. Hope it's soon though, because I'm also considering moving away from them.

I have had good ADSL service so far with 2degrees, but now that I can move to UFB there's just a tempting mix of extra stuff that Spark includes at a slightly lower price. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see what 2degs can come up with - I'd like to see them succeed and I'm holding off for a couple of months to see what they can come up with.
