My GF's using Xnet and to help her YouTube experience I've installed Speedbit Video Accelerator. Its basically a download manager/ multi threaded download for youtube videos. Works sweet :)

I'M with orcon takes me about 5 minutes to load a 1min video on you tube at night , In the morning its abit faster until around 3pm ( that kind of sucks because i work from 8 until 3 then 5 till around 10 ) , as for downloads http , ftp , distro torrents iv never been over 650ish kB/s

This could because I'm still on adsl rung telecom awhile of I'm not due for adsl2 for another 3 years :\

Yeah Ive got ADSL2+ with orcon and i can't stream SD youtube. have to pause and wait a few minutes. It's really annoying. So Telecom can stream youtube then? Might check out their plans.

Orcon have turned to crap for me since Mid-May

They did some "upgrade" and since then speeds have been terrible (both national and international).

Youtube is practically unusable most of the time.

Also recently their usage meter has moved to only updating once a day (I emailed them about this a week ago and had no response).

Typical - was with them for 18 months with no problem and now this.

They claim that our area needs an "upgrade" to the equipment which won't happen until 2011 - yet it is a brand new subdivision with newly installed equipment.

Pathetic.

I've been on telecom now for nearly 2 months... its the best internet experience ive ever had... I left orcon after I made several complaints about speed to there helpdesk, and they always blamed 1) my phone line conditions, 2) my router.

Even though I was using a orcon supplied home hub, and I have a splitter installed in the demarc box with a cat6 cable running directly to the router...

with telecom my internet is just always fast, I cant notice any slow downs in the "busy periods like orcon"... and youtube can stream HD videos without buffering.. go figure

Check page 1 at the bottom for my comparrision bewtween telecom and orcon

The only thing that puts me off going to Telecom is having to deal with Xtra..

All I can say now is.

E-P-I-C F-A-I-L-U-R-E

YouTube is basically un-usable at this point, and has been for days now.

Great Orcon, thanks for the kick in the face.
I mean, it was bad before, but bearable. What the hell am I doing on ADSL2+, all i'm getting is dial-up performance.

I'm on UBS Orcon, cabinetised, with line speeds of around 15 Mb/s down /0.9Mb/s up, and great down/up speeds, but over the last month or so, I've had spectacularly poor Youtube performance also, with constant buffering of even SD clips. I thought it maybe a global problem until I checked a few Telecom users and theirs was fine. I headed here to see if this was a common Orcon problem, and sure enough it is. Never thought I'd go back to Telecom, but looks like another customer lost.
Orcon, used to monitor this forum, but don't seem interested these days.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

Telecom have fantastic performance on YouTube from what i've experienced.
Thinking of moving back, myself, now.

Hi Guys

Just to let you know that I have been reading the forums and noting the problems thats are being experienced, and we are working hard to look into it. Youtube is one of the sites we want to run perfectly for you.

Have some projects on the go which should help. Will let you know more soon :)
