Probably something to do with Dunedin having 3 times the number of sites. You'd think they have this thing turned on before xmas.

True, true. Higher population density of course requires more towers.

Also true. I guess it just seems like they are further along with the Invercargill network. Maybe it's just perceived due to there being more discussion around it.
The Dunedin network was switched on last night but it's not a Mobile Broadband Zone just yet. We're still testing and optimizing to get things right and will announce when it's ready.

I'm actually in Mosgiel as well. I only had between 1-2 bars though. The ping seems to be a lot better compared to Vodafone, though. As 2Degrees has said, they are still optimising, so my speed test results are probably due to an un-optimised network, and possibly due to location as well.
On a side note, I went past poo corner today and couldn't see any noticeable 'antenna-like' structures. Is it visible at all?
