droan: One things isnt right about the press release. Vodafone is faster than Telecom on the 3G network! Yes, Telecom used to be faster but vodafone has invest in it's infrastructure the past few years. Also one thing to consider is the new LTD or 4G network that is planned for 2014 (I think). Who will roll it out first? Voda or Tele?

In regards to the Mobile virtual Operator, I think the regulars has set a fixed price for telecom n Vodafone to supply to any other players like 2 degree/telstra and soon to be slingshot. And if you compares all the relevant company so far each has it's own advantages.

It is true that launching a new plan which undercut the rest of the suppliers would make a impact, but i dont think it will have a price war as such i.e. current phone line/internet hasnt move on prices. But instead telco focused on added value based strategy to win more customers.

For example, Vodafone has just upped their ultimate plan from 45g to 60g in response to other telco's competitiveness  They have increased the data plan twice in less then half a year from 30g to now 60g! Now that's what I call market competition.

With more and more players joining the market, major 2 telco suppliers wont enjoy the rich margin that they used to enjoy and that's great news for us as customers as it is about bloody time!

NZ still have one of the highest mobile charges and it's great that it's gradually coming down. Give credit to company like Slingshot/2degree who recognise the gap really wants to make a impact. It is them who are driving cheaper and more reasonable pricing for us!
