MadEngineer: What about placing a switch between the ont and the genius?
greminn: Putting the switch between the ONT and the genius fixed the issue.. But now I ain't got a switch :)
Flicked pfsence onto a spare (atom powered) box I had with gig Ethernet and set that as firewall/router to replace the genius. Works sweet as.

Good to hear you have a result at least. So was a duplex issue? Have duplex issues quite often on auto negotiation when connecting to ISPs TBH.
MadEngineer: They're a nice firewall. Have you subscribed to and making use of its antivirus filtering?
Sounddude: Hi Greminn
Looks like an Auto-neg issue between the ONT and Genius modem. We are taking this up with UFF as this shouldn't be the case.
Glad you got it sorted and sorry for the troubles you have had! If you do want to change back to the Genius at some point, let us know and we can force 100/full on both the ONT and the Genius.

greminn:
I tested connecting the PC directly to the ONT forcing the network card to both 100/Half Duplex and 100/Full Duplex.. Speed drops down to below 30Mbit for half duplex and even worse for full. The Ultrafast ONT does NOT in anyway shape or form like being connected to with anything but 1000.

I thought it what was meant to happen. When a 1000 Mbps port is connected to a port that is manually set to another speed, it will always assume half duplex hence if you set your PC to full duplex then there would be lots of collisions and no resends from the end that assumed it to be full duplex. Hence the lousy speed.
When the PC is set for half duplex, then while they will both talk, the nature of half duplex is that it will be slower than full duplex.
So I'm not sure that this test proves that anything is at fault.
What did you find out about CPE - was it set to 100M auto negiotate? Can you find another switch that is only 100 Mbps and with auto neg enabled?
