And you'll be pleased to know that maxing both upload and download for extended periods is achievable, just make sure your HDD's are up to the transfer speeds required.

Heh, yes, SSD or RAID required to meet those speeds LOL!

Edit: Oh, that's Megabits - so only 20 MegaBYTES /sec... most HDDs should handle that - some slower NAS' can't tho!

depends on the random IOPs really..

you can get down below if your hitting it elsewhere..

My profile change went through tonight. Very happy with the extra speed. Had to call Snap as they were initially rate limiting just the download to 100mbit. Got a speedtest with 100 down 200 up. Also they said that I had the wrong username for my connection programmed into my router. I had it set simply as "username" the correct format is "username@snap.net.nz". They said that sometimes changes to settings at their end don't apply properly. If you use the wrong format. So something to check if you are a Snap customer. (I thought that if your username is the wrong format you wouldn't be able to connect).

Profile change took place for me few hours ago too, now speed 200/20, will soon change again to 200/200 once Enable has it up and running.
Funny enough the speedtest I did at first was bursting all over the place, now it's back down at 200, :) thx Snap.

Indeed, I am waiting For Enable to have their 200/200 ready, 200/20 just to secure a place with Snap's promo for now.

Yeah, I'm also waiting for Enable to make that plan available here in CHCH. I'm still on my old plan until it is available and they said they will still honor the promo deal, even if I get it outside the promotional period.
Also, I don't trust speedtest.net. I was getting 130+mbps to San Jose server while my network connection displayed zero data sent half way through the download test.

OK, I'm still a bit confused. I could phone but i think it is good to have things in writing.

I'm currently on Snap 100/50 UFB (network provider is UFF in Tauranga), with IP telephony and $10 free calling add-on. This costs $149 per month.

I am considering a move to 200/200 unlimited.

My upgrade path just now, is to switch to Lightwave home 200 (200/20)  which will cost $130 ( $110 base price +$10 unlimited data + $10 free national calls). So, my monthly bill drops to $130.

When UFF offers 200/200 (soon according to snap), I can switch to Lightwave 200 ultra and my monthly bill will change to $160 ($140 base + $10 unlimited + $10 national calling).

But, I don't really need national calling as telecom are so generous with 400 minutes on their $39 mobile plan. So, I can get rid of that, and pay $150 per month for 200/200 on unlimited data.

Any penalties/restrictions or fish hooks in what I am trying to do?  I was wondering if dropping national calling would result in a penalty.

Anyone know how long it takes to be correctly provisioned - the upload isn't bad but the download seems capped at 30mbps max.

Thats pretty much what im doing on UFF as well (bar the $10 national calling which was free).  Ive switched to 200/20 then going to 200/200 when available.  No penalties or restrictions as far as im aware.  Just keep a good eye on your bill around the switchover time tho as sometimes the system gets upset with the changes.  I got charged a penalty, but that was reversed as it wasnt supposed to be there, but also because the switchover was close to my billing date, the system got upset and instead of direct debiting the whole amount, it only took out $3.70 and had to manually pay the rest.  But other than that the only thing you have to do is commit to another 24 month plan.

Aaron

EDIT:  200 upload not 2000 doh!

My 200/20 service is now up and running with Snap as well. Upgraded from 100/50 from Snap. Great service from Ralph/Snap throughout the upgrade process. Now to wait till 18th to have my billing date reset and have unlimited data.

how did you test the speed? I tested my 100/20 through wifi, it always goes up to 65/19 or similar on ipad and 55/15 on Android phone, I would guess if i tested on wired ethernet cable will be better.

Wired. Always test wired for 100% true speed accuracy.
