Is there anyone on here who lives in Hibiscus Coast area able to run Speedtests to Auckland and elsewhere.

Hopefully they will be on Orcon also but any other ISP as well.

I am very surprised now about the latency being so high for such a short distance. I suspect there is a little tiki tour going on with the routing

Dairyxox: How many devices do you have on both wifi and ethernet, phones, tablets, desktops, NAS, other IOT/smart things?

Change your wifi pasword, and dont reconnect any wifi stuff just yet. Unplug all ethernet stuff except one laptop or pc, then try an orcon speedtest.

Make sure you dont have a torrent or backup software on the pc youre testing with.

Im trying to rule out something saturating your upload bandwidth somehow.

Youre not running a server, or have open ports in your router? Maybe factory reset the router to be sure.

WiFi - 2 Smartphones, I've turned wifi off completely:

Not running an server and no open ports on the router- I factory reset last week and I haven't changed anything other than SSID and Password

OP is on VDSL which depending on line profile may have interleaving delay.

It seems Orcon are based on the North Shore so even more surprised by you throughput.

Hopefully someone else on the Hibiscus Coast can run a Speedtest to compare

Exactly this, 19ms is about right. 16ms from 8 both ways, 3~5 to internet from there.

upstream speed looks about right, so does not look like upstream congestion.

Possibly a congested backhaul link?

Test with another modem, Isolation single device.

I have done this in the course of testing with Orcon (who replaced the modem with a new one with no change) :D

I got this response from Orcon - Im guessing that they don't understand the significance (overseas call centre im guessing?) of it showing im based in Napier when I am north of Auckland. I have clarified for them that i understand why its showing im on slingshot but not the issue with the location.

I have verified with our Senior Level of Support that it is okay for you to get Slingshot on the carrier, since we are under Callplus. I have run another test on your line and can see that the system is detecting that our line is not stable, since there is a "Dynamic Line Monitoring" activated on your account. I have also run a 24 hour monitoring on your line to further check the connection. Please do not turn off the modem for the next 24 hours.

I don't know what this means except for "don't turn the modem off" so will wait to hear back. Will make sure to post the resolution in case anyone else has this issue.

What the rep is doing is running a LQD test on your line, the reason they don't want you turning off the modem is it will skew the results from normal usage to include your disconnects.

Also if it is left powered off for a fair bit of the test, that makes the test far less useful and likely will land with requiring another Test to be ran.

If you are looking at congestion issue with a backhaul link, it will be difficult to make progress, keep at it though.

Great to hear the modem has been replaced, so that will obviously count out the modem. Once again isolating while testing would be good to limit down factors affecting your connection though.

Thanks for the info - I've been away for a week so havent posted a response. I can promise every test I have been doing is with one pc with a wired connection to the router. I even went to the point of bringing home a fresh out of the box pc to test the connection on. Im thinking about doing the same with a new modem though ill have to buy that.

So I've come back to find that nothing has really changed - I have received the reponse of "As per line test results, everything is looking great. I can see that the service stability is stable. You should be getting up to 9856kbps (9.8mbps) upload and 54632kbps (54.6mpbs) download respectively.

I highly recommend that you call us on as we may need to log a fault."

I guess I either resign to the fact Im stuck with this unless I move or try call Orcon tomorrow to log a fault so they can charge me $130 for nothing yet again. Im really at a loss now. Probably as you say a congestion issue. Looking forward maybe to July 2019 when my area gets fibre...

Without having access to your DSL stats from SPM it's not possible to know conclusively but if these are showing as being good (and they seem to be) the issue is one of two things - an Orcon issue or your network. If you are sure it's not your network the issue has to be Orcon so moving providers would potentially give you a far better performing connection.

Not an Orcon issue. We have a ton of bandwidth from the Glenfield and HBC exchanges.

Did you investigate this particular issue? Or just make this assumption because there is a lot of free bandwidth at those exchanges.

I have a quick look at this particular issue from a core point of view.

User hangs off a HBC Cabinet which is mapped to RDB exchange EUBA handover, we then backhaul it to the Northcote BNG.

Bad port?

@yitz Sorry is that a question for me or @Sounddude

Sadly haven't been able to call orcon yet while experiencing this as it's started to happen at 10.30pm plus after the call center closes. Just going to have to try get lucky(?) I suppose and experience it earlier.
