Over the past month I've been experiencing an issue with Orcon's VDSL Service.

Every night after about 7pm and running until midnight my internet has been unusable. Normally throughout the day I can download vector files (between 1MB and 30MB in size) at a respectable 2-3mbps but once 7pm rolls around it all goes down hill. It could start bang on 7pm, or 8pm or 9pm etc. (Linetests normally should correct speeds throughout the day even though its not the speeds im getting)

After this the internet becomes unuseable. I can't even download a simple 200kb file without it struggling to do so at 2kbps.. Its worse than what I remember dialup being.I've been through all the basic stuff with Orcon replacing the modem, running isolation tests and so on with no results.

Has anyone experienced this before that may know of something that's causing this because I'm getting zero answers from Orcon?

(happy to provide more info)

What are your DSL sync stats? That's the only thing that matters for initial diagnosis.

This is sounding more like a Conklin situation than a VDSL one.

Please post your modem stats for us to comment further though.

-Is it only these vector files from this one source that suffers this issue? Or are all transfers at this time of day a problem?

-Where are the downloads hosted? - (Perhaps the server has congestion at this time of day at their end?)

If you can share a link then others can test the download as well.

The Line rates look good so you should now try testing to the closest server using nPerf or Speedtest.net.

Try before the times you are having problems then during the times you do, and see what the differences are.

I would expect a very high throughput given your line rate, but unsure on how much contention there is on Orcon backhaul.

All Transfers at this time of day, I commonly download a lot of vectors for work purposes.

It isn't just downloads but the speeds as a whole - eg facebook will crawl to load, Downloading Ai Files from Google Drive, Playing online games is also impossible due to latency.

I've tried doing all of these things independently as well at different times to try isolate the issue, using different hosting services with all the same issue.

I'll give this a go tonight. :)

Orcon had me running linetest.nz constantly with no changes - I was getting same UP and Down speeds for most of the time regards of the time of day.

Ok so I trialed this. My GF tried playing WoW - approximately 5000ms, I also tried CS:GO after this with similar results with fluctuation between 3000ms and 6000ms, I've also attempted to download a vector image from freepik (I can post links) - the download starts at 20kb/s or so and slowly dies to 0kb/s - All of these were attempted independently on multiple pcs - one pc connected at a time.

I took screenshots of the nPerf test and the download through chrome.

 Peak Hours:

 Off Peak Hours

I got the following response from Orcon about the speed: " have looked into your account for you and have concluded that the speed issues you experience would indeed be due to peak hours." I have a feeling they are just looking at the linetest results and saying yip all good. Is there something I can do to try and see if there's a fault on my end? Im starting to pull my hair out over this as it doesn't seem normal for this to happen.

Thanks for all the help guys!

took it as possibly a confused situation given the values listed.

Based on the above posts the the capitals were missed however.

None of that data stacks up. It's not really possible to conclude what's going on based on that but I don't pick it being an Orcon issue. My hunch is something internal in your network.

Thanks for the feedback

Any suggestions where to start trying to find the problem if it is internal? Im not running any additonal networking hardware outside of the orcon provided modem.

WHat happens when you run speedtest.net to an Orcon server rather than the tests you're doing?
