Also the international speed doesn't matter as much as before now that google, apple and other services that you usually upload to etc. all have cache server and data center in different countries.

This is not the case with Google drive (looks like it's in Sydney); I only get ~5MBytes/sec upload speed to there (which is actually what set this whole thing off).

While we're waiting for the new SpeedTest servers to appear in the list (I assume they'll be listed under '2Degrees - <Location>'?) I found this alternative speed test which seems to be pretty consistent:

https://www.backblaze.com/speedtest/

Still hitting that ~150mbit upper limit.

Also for the record, iPerf testing between myself and another Gig fibre connection (on another NZ ISP - Auckland to Hamilton) yields around 450mbit/sec sustained transfer rate, which is about what I'd expect.

Sure it's not something on your end?

A connection of 294.6 Mbps upload would backup 3,182 GB in a day

Download 288.2 Mbit/s

Upload 294.6Mbit/s

Ping 167.4ms

Jitter 26.9ms

Sure I'll show my ignorance here... Is the deployment of the 2 international speedtest servers to help identify any issues which could be causing the slow (excluding Aussie) international upload speeds? Eg. It'll give you better visibility?

That looks to use the new responsive speedtest.

More reference points for comparison/testing/tuning etc - You should have better control on what's within your network, so having points across your network and on the edge means you can hopefully isolate whether issues are on net or off net. It also assists to see if there is something funky going on with upstream suppliers for example if things work well within the network. We are making some progress in our investigation by discounting things (Servers are in place already, but not accessible until speedtest do their bit. We can do our own tests in the interim),  we have sent some NUC PC's to a couple of people experiencing issues so we can see what their are seeing and capture any relevant information to assist in discussions with upstream providers or hardware providers if needed.

Nick.

I don't know what is going on but I am really noticing it now. I was attempting to download a 230mb file via Amazon SES and was getting 100kb/s down. Ended up setting up a VM in Australia (Vultr) and downloading it to that but found I could only get around 100kb/s to that too.

I've got a server here in NZ - Get around 30Mbit to that via Cloudflare Auckland. A friend on Spark gets his full speed (200Mbit) to it via Japan (due to Cloudflare's odd routing right now).

And finally, a Speedtest to the Auckland 2degrees host is pretty terrible considering I am on Gigabit:

As you have seen in this thread, it's not just me so unlikely to be my end.  Plus, my iperf tests to another gigabit fibre user shows very good throughput which also rules out my end.

@SamF - Never implied or suggested otherwise ;-) Are you located in Wellington too? mentalinc ? (Like Murfy & Mauricio)

I realise that you never implied that :)

I'm in Auckland.

To that BackBlaze Speedtest I am now getting 40Mbit. Sydney is averaging around 80Mbit, Auckland 200Mbit and Wellington is 7-900Mbit depending on what server I am testing to.

Something is really iffy with 2degrees at the moment. I've let @NickMack know in-case he wants to do some additional testing on my connection.

This is what we're thinking as both Mauricio and I are affected with what appears to be the same issue. Both in different parts of Wellington.
